Already adopted by the National Assembly, the constitutional bill relating to the freedom to resort to voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) was submitted to the vote of the Upper House this Wednesday, February 28.
A vote which promised to be much closer, its president Gérard Larcher having notably spoken out against this constitutional modification.

The rejection, in the Senate Law Committee this morning, then during the examination in session, of the two amendments tabled by LR senators sounded like a first victory for the government, removing an obstacle which could have slowed down this already complex process.
The senators also spoke out against a motion for prior rejection, filed by Stéphane Ravier (Reconquest!), with 342 votes against out of 343 votes cast.
Ultimately, it was with 267 votes for and 50 against that the Senate ratified the bill drafted by the government.
