The Maisach brewery probably has a future after all.

Things are looking very good for the insolvent Maisacher brewery: three investors are interested in taking over.

The cooperative model could be integrated – the response is huge.

Maisach – A total of twelve investors have so far registered for the Maisach brewery.

A few dropped out again, others were eliminated by brewery managing director Michael Schweinberger and insolvency administrator Hanns Pöllmann because they didn't think they were suitable or their ideas were utopian.

Four interested parties remained, and discussions have already taken place with three.

Medium-sized breweries

Everyone is from the field, i.e. brewers, reports Schweinberger.

All come from medium-sized breweries, “our collar”.

Three are from southern Bavaria, one investor comes from Italy.

Everyone would like to continue brewing Maisacher beer, as it currently looks under Schweinberger's leadership.

Two of the four would like to pursue the cooperative idea.

No wonder: the response is huge.

In the few days since the website where people can express interest went online, 250 potential comrades have already registered.

They want to bring in a total of around 600,000 euros, at least that's the result of the non-binding declarations of intent.

cooperative

A cooperative (which is more complicated to set up and therefore takes longer) could be integrated into the new brewery operation later.

It is important that a rescue structure with an investor for the brewery is in place at the beginning of April.

The insolvency proceedings for the former Maisach GmbH brewery will begin at the beginning of April and will then be wound up.

Until then, the “safety net must be in place,” says Schweinberger, and a restructuring plan must also be in place.

land and buildings

The land and building of the brewery (and business) belong to Martina Wieser-Sedlmayr, who ran the business before Schweinberger.

The current managing director bought the equipment and brand from her and he pays rent for the use of the building.

According to Schweinberger, Sedlmayr has stated “that she is not opposed to an amicable solution”.

She will play an important role in discussions next week with the narrow circle of investors: the question is whether the investor wants/can buy the property or whether it will continue to be leased.

According to Schweinberger, one thing is clear: “All investors want long-term security.”

An expert's assessment should be completed this week.

Then it is clear what an investor would have to pay for the brewing equipment.

Schweinberger speaks of a six-figure amount.

The brewery will be able to deliver until the end of April.

New malt has just been purchased so we can continue brewing.

The suppliers are still on board, only a small number of customers have dropped out.

According to Schweinberger, the owners of the around 40 inns with Maisacher beer are loyal to the brewery despite its location.

Only in one case was a switch to a large brewery considered.

By the way: about the actions of the big ones

The vultures would at least wait until the prey was dead, says Michael Schweinberger, managing director of the Maisach brewery.

Things are different when it comes to brewery ties in the catering industry: the representatives of large breweries were already in the restaurants supplied by the Maisacher, as soon as the Maisacher's financial problems were public.

That's why Schweinberger constantly talks to the innkeepers and is glad that they are on his side.

He is also happy that there are agreements with the König-Ludwig-Schlossbrauerei - they don't rip off each other.

Some large breweries act differently.

Many innkeepers, who had been Maisach customers for a long time, quickly had offers from an industry giant on the table.

Schweinberger is really angry at a large brewery.

Their representatives would act “nasty” and make “immoral offers”.

“This endangers our restructuring process.”

But there are also beautiful experiences.

When Schweinberger was recently sitting with a friend in the Frietinger Inn in Luttenwang, a stranger suddenly appeared in the room.

He introduced himself as a representative of another large brewery.

The reaction in the business, where Maisacher beer also flows: a lot of laughter.

Schweinberger says they then had a friendly conversation - and he invited the representative for a beer.
