It appears that Brigadier General Barak Hiram will not be appointed as commander of the Gaza Division this summer due to the events of October 7 - this is what senior officers in the IDF confirmed this morning (Wednesday).
At the same time, senior officers harshly criticized Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi for not speaking publicly and presenting his position regarding the incident in question as the army commander
. During the events of Black Sabbath, firing tank shells at a building in Kibbutz Bari where Hamas terrorists were barricaded - and as a result 13 Israeli hostages were killed. In an interview with the New York Times, Hiram said that after unsuccessful negotiations with the terrorists, he ordered the tank to "break in , even at the cost of civilian casualties." The IDF is still investigating the incident.

Senior officers said that Harzi must clarify his position as the commander of the army and at the same time set a date for the presentation of the investigation and quickly hold an assignment discussion for the commander of the Gaza Division.
"A professional selection process and a proper overlap process are required for the position of commander of the Gaza Division during a war," said one of the officers.
However, another officer said in a closed conversation that it is not desirable to replace the entire Command Avenue in the Gaza Division at the same time.
The commander of the Southern Brigade in the Gaza Division, Col. Assaf Hammi, was killed on October 7 in the defense of Kibbutz Nirim and his body was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists, along with the bodies of his PAK fighters.
In his place, on the same day, was temporarily appointed to command the southern brigade, Col. Tal Ashur, who previously commanded the brigade and is expected to face the position of a regular brigade in the future.
The IDF spokesman has not yet given a response.
