The Lenggries local council decided by a large majority to adjust the fees in the daycare centers.

But some councilors are struggling with the decision.

Lenggries – It remains the same: the municipality of Lenggries will increase the fees for the municipal daycare centers from September.

It is the second increase after 2022. This was not well received by everyone: the four representatives of the SPD and the Independent Group (formerly the Greens) voted against it at the local council meeting on Monday.

The increase brings an additional 94,000 euros into the till

Treasurer Michael Wenig once again presented the figures that he had also presented to the main committee (we reported).

Anyone who has their child looked after for four to five hours a day will now pay 140 euros per month instead of 120.

It continues in 14 euro increments for each additional hour of booking time.

“We took our cues from the municipal facilities in the area,” said Wenig.

On average, you pay 136 euros for four to five hours of care.

You also have to take into account that the parents will receive a refund of 100 euros from the Free State.

It also gets more expensive in the crèche.

The fee there increases from 240 to 280 euros (four to five hours).

It continues in 28 euro increments.

This brings 94,000 euros more into the municipal coffers every year.

Given an annual deficit of around 1.3 million euros, “almost just a drop in the ocean,” said Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher (FWG).

In view of the deficit and the personnel costs that continue to rise due to tariff adjustments, “the fee adjustment is unavoidable.

Otherwise it will catch up with us at some point.”

And ultimately the contribution is still “at a tolerable level”.

Daniela Werner: “The jump is too high for me”

Daniela Werner (Independent Group) did not deny that an adjustment was needed.

But she didn't like the fact that it was over ten percent.

“Everything has become more expensive, everyone has to see where they stay.

The jump is too high for me.” She suggested that the increase should be based on the inflation rate.

“But it doesn’t match our expenses,” noted Klaffenbacher.

“We have to make sure that we keep the deficit somewhat within limits.” For most parents it’s about 40 euros per month.

That's a little more than one euro per day.

“Of course there are families where this won’t be easy.

But the fact that everything is becoming more expensive - this development does not stop at us as a community.” Especially when you look at the 2024 budget with its many tasks, added Andreas Wohlmuth (FWG).

The children are really valuable to the community.

But the care must also be worth something to the parents.

The adjustment is “still tolerable to a degree,” said Wohlmuth.

The community incurs additional costs with full-day care

Vice Mayor Franz Schöttl (CSU) sees it similarly.

“The personnel costs simply run away from us.” The community wants to maintain the quality of care offered.

“That has its price.” Of course, no one likes to increase fees.

“But we have to take this step,” said Schöttl.

It is simply essential to cover at least part of the expenses through fees, added CSU parliamentary group leader Josef Wasensteiner.

Markus Ertl (FWG) noted that with the right to full-day care at primary schools from 2026, the community will face completely new tasks and costs.

SPD advocates postponing the point

Tobias Raphelt (SPD), on the other hand, wanted the point to be postponed – “until the budget has been decided”.

Maybe you can find potential for savings elsewhere during the consultations.

“I don’t think that’s helpful,” replied Klaffenbacher.

When drawing up the budget, the red pencil was already applied in a few places.

“But it is the only fee increase we are making now,” countered Sabine Gerg (SPD).

Everything else will only come on the table during the budget discussions next month.

This is because enrollment in kindergartens is now underway and contracts are being prepared.

The last increase was decided in June 2022.

After that, all contracts would have had to be rewritten.

This “didn’t lead to enthusiasm” among the daycare center managers, said the mayor.

In addition, the parent councils of all three institutions were informed in advance of the consultations.

“They go along with it completely.”

At first, the majority of the local council rejected the postponement.

The fee adjustment was then decided with four votes against.
