In the middle of the day, a man is said to have attacked two children in Duisburg.
The two were seriously injured and were able to escape to a school.

The suspect hit and stabbed the children with both objects, police sources said.
The police confirmed that the 21-year-old suspect was arrested without resistance after a short time near the crime scene.
The crime occurred around 12 p.m. in the middle of a street in a residential area in the Marxloh district of Duisburg.
The two children - a boy and a girl - could have escaped to a Catholic elementary school two blocks away after the attack.
There, a teacher came to help them, the police reported.
Both were then taken to the hospital.

There was initially no reliable information about the age of the victims; they fluctuated between 9 and 14 years, said the police spokeswoman.

The two victims are being treated in hospital.
According to doctors, one of the children's injuries were serious but not life-threatening, said a police spokeswoman.
There is still no precise information about the health of the second child.
Just last Thursday there was a knife attack on students at a school in Wuppertal.
Seven students and the 17-year-old alleged perpetrator were injured in the attack, which authorities classified as an amok.
According to investigators, the high school student suddenly attacked several classmates with a knife during a break.
He then allegedly inflicted serious injuries on himself before a teacher was able to persuade him to give up.
According to the police and public prosecutor's office, there is evidence of mental illness in the 17-year-old.
