It's a little encouraging story that sheds a warm light on how we live together: A woman (65) loses her wallet and doesn't even notice it.

The next day a young man rings the doorbell.

At first she is suspicious, then she spontaneously throws her arms around him.

Out of gratitude.

Holzkirchen

– Inge Metz (65) is like many people these days.

Bad news, a lot of pessimism in the country, a depressed mood, everything seems to be shaking somehow.

“And that’s also why it was such a special moment for me,” she says.

A feeling that there are nice people who will do something for someone without knowing him or her.

Felix Jegan is this nice person.

He found a wallet, looked to see who it belonged to, got into the car and brought it to the owner.

“It goes without saying,” says the 23-year-old from Holzkirchner.

The owner of the wallet has a slightly different opinion.

“I’m still speechless,” she admits.

It was exactly a week ago when Inge Metz was once again at work in the Old Holzkirchner Cemetery.

Her father and grandparents found their final resting place here, and she lit candles in the area of the urn graves.

And shortly afterwards it must have happened: the leather wallet slipped out of her pocket.

“I didn’t even notice it when I got back home,” says the 65-year-old, who lives in Grafing near Arget (municipality of Sauerlach).

In retrospect, it's even better that way, she admits: "It saved me a lot of nerves."

The next day Felix Jegan, employed at the Holzkirchen nursery Weber, had to look after a grave in the old cemetery.

Then his eyes fell on the wallet.

“He was lying on the stone surrounding the grave,” reports the 23-year-old.

The rain the night before had made the wallet a little soggy.

Is there anything else in it?

The young Holzkirchner opens his wallet and finds cash inside.

Credit cards, ID cards.

“My first thought was to take it to the lost property office at town hall,” reports Jegan.

“But then I saw that the woman doesn’t live in Holzkirchen and perhaps doesn’t know where exactly she lost her wallet.”

The address was on the ID cards.

During the lunch break, the 23-year-old informed his father and together they drove via Otterfing to Grafing.

“Suddenly there was this young man,” reports Inge Metz.

“It was really scary for me; I was so scared that I first presented the door chain.” But then the visitor showed her her wallet.

Everything is still there.

“I was completely overwhelmed and didn’t know what to say,” says the 65-year-old.

She can't even imagine how much effort and trouble she was saved by blocking cards and applying for new ID cards.

“And then someone drives over and brings me the wallet, which I hadn’t even missed until that moment.”

Inge Metz holds her wallet in her hand, looks at the tall man and asks: “Would you mind if I gave you a quick hug?” Felix Jegan didn’t mind.

“I was very happy that she was so touched and grateful,” says the young gardener.

She was so pleased by his honesty and willingness to help, “that my heart was pounding,” reports the 65-year-old, “that’s unusual.” Especially in these times, this happy encounter gave her courage.
