Meteorological spring begins on March 1st.
The winter was clearly too warm – will spring now be “normally” cold again or too warm?
Munich - It is very likely that the winter of 2023/2024 will cross the finish line as the third warmest since weather records began on Friday, March 1st.
Because then the meteorological spring begins and winter goes into the history books - which is why the first ski areas close.
The question naturally arises: What is the weather like during the change of months and seasons in Bavaria?
Weather for the change of season: First, the warmest February in more than 140 years ends
In the last days of February the weather remains variable and mild.
Between Monday, February 26th and Wednesday, February 28th, temperatures in Bavaria fluctuate around ten degrees, with sometimes heavy and sometimes lighter clouds.
On Thursday, February 29th - a special day for many leap year children - it will even be 14 degrees warm in Bavaria, according to Dominik Jung from

This means that the end of February has already been reached - a February that was significantly too warm, as the meteorologist reports in the current YouTube video on the
wetternet
channel .

The third warmest winter and the warmest February since weather records began – the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly clear.
The average temperature in February was seven degrees - the average temperature in March, however, is only 4.6 degrees, explains Jung.
Not only was February significantly warmer than the average March - if March had normal temperatures again, it would probably seem too cold to most people, simply because February was so warm.
The question arises – what will the weather be like in March?

Bavaria: Weather in March, weather in spring – the current forecast
On Friday, March 1st, the current weather trend will initially continue - in Bavaria the temperatures will remain at a mild 13 to 14 degrees and heavily cloudy.
On Saturday, March 2nd, it will still be mild in Bavaria (13 degrees) and the sun will come out again, also in Munich.
It's supposed to be spring-like and mild here again on Sunday with temperatures around 14 degrees.

The general motto for the weather for the beginning of spring in Bavaria still seems to be mild and dry: “Little precipitation, temperatures at ten, eleven, twelve degrees,” explains Jung when looking at the March forecast.
Overall, March is expected to be one to two degrees warmer than the new climate average (1991 to 2020) for the month of March.
However, this would still be below February, which could make for a cooler month.
On the other hand, there could be a little more rain than usual - the south of Bavaria is particularly affected.
It should remain largely dry in the rest of the Free State.
