A 55-year-old man was hospitalized this Tuesday with
a reserved prognosis
after suffering serious injuries when
hanging from his truck to prevent it from being stolen
and being dragged for several meters in the department of
Guaymallén
, province of Mendoza.
The incident occurred around noon at the intersection of Gomensoro and Sarmiento streets.
According to witnesses, the victim arrived there in his white Toyota Hilux truck,
left it on and went to a kiosk
.
A security camera in the area captured the moment when a man begins to hover around the vehicle and,
seeing that it was with no one at the wheel, decides to enter
.
The worst came when the owner, a farmer from Los Corralitos and identified by Mendoza media as José Vidigh, returned to the truck and warned that they wanted to take it.
After passing in front of the vehicle, he approached the driver's door and
tried to prevent the criminal from escaping
, but he cared little because he pressed the accelerator even though the owner was clinging to the door of the truck.
Meters later, and before the incredulous gaze of a passer-by and a motorcyclist who were passing by the area, the man
fell to the asphalt
, suffering, among other
serious injuries
, a head injury that left him unconscious.
The victim was transferred to the Central Hospital of the city of Mendoza in an ambulance from the Coordinated Emergency Service.
Sources from that hospital detailed that he was
admitted to intensive care and with a reserved prognosis
.
A few hours after the incident,
the stolen truck was found abandoned
, and initially without traces of the criminal, on Carlos Pellegrini and Fray Justo Santa María de Oro streets, in Guaymallén.
They found it after a 911 call was made, in which a person who had found out about the episode through social networks had seen a similar truck at that intersection.
Fiscal Office No. 8 of Guaymallén was in charge of the investigation.
