Highlights: Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the Lower House, reminded ministers of their constitutional obligations. A warning immediately greeted the oppositions, who saw it as an opportunity to drive a wedge within the presidential majority. The President of the Lower House reminded ministers of their constitutional obligations, after the timid response of a Secretary of State to an elected LR.

The days go by and the battles follow one another.

After the violent clash that occurred on Tuesday in the Assembly between Gabriel Attal and Marine Le Pen, the hemicycle of the Palais Bourbon was on Wednesday the scene of a formal reframing of the government by the President of the Lower House, Yaël Braun-Pivet.

From the perch, the elected official from Yvelines reminded the ministers of their constitutional obligations.

“Madam Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, I thank you for indicating to each minister that they should really answer the questions asked by Parliament.

I remind you that the government is responsible to Parliament

,” she reprimanded.

A warning immediately greeted the oppositions, who opportunely saw it as an opportunity to drive a wedge within the presidential majority.

In question, an interpellation of the LR deputy for Rhône, Nathalie Serre, who mentioned the

“recent information (which) is circulating concerning the authorization granted for the installation of a Saudi village on the Invalides site from May 10 2024 for a period of four months”

, i.e. during the Olympic Games.

“I would like some clarification on this.

Could you tell me if the office of the President of the Republic and your ministry have given their agreement?

If so, could you provide us with the details of this installation?

, questions the elected official on the right.

An old quarrel between Braun-Pivet and the majority

After which the Secretary of State for Veterans Affairs, Patricia Miralles, seemed caught off guard - members of the government were not informed of the details of the questions in advance.

At the microphone, the centrist therefore confirmed the existence of discussions on this subject, while refusing to give further explanations.

“I will try to answer on what I know, indeed, it is information that we may have had.

Today nothing is concrete, nothing is done and so I understand your questions but I will not answer on things that have not been done, nor signed, with any agreement

,” she evaded.

And to dodge again, faced with the insistence of her interlocutor who said she was awaiting “

information with interest

”: “

Madame MP Serre (...) knows that I will give her an answer

”.

At the end of the session, the elected LR then went to the Salle des Quatre Colonnes to welcome the reframing carried out by Yaël Braun-Pivet:

“I was very happy that Madam President reminded the government of its duty to answer

".

Ditto for his socialist colleague Philippe Brun, who for his part expressed his

“pride

”.

This means reviving an old quarrel between Yaël Braun-Pivet and her own camp: the majority troops - from which she comes - have long accused her of being too lenient towards the opposition.

And to do it at their expense.
