At this year's Derblecken on Nockherberg, things got down to business, with Lenten speaker Maxi Schafroth sharply criticizing Söder and Aiwanger in particular.

Munich – The Lenten speech by Maxi Schafroth ended at 8:15 p.m., who this year once again had the honor of harshly insulting the politicians who were present and those who were not present.

Things got down to business - sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly, Schafroth sharply criticized Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and Bavaria's Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), but also Bavaria's Green Party leader Katharina Schulze and SPD Chancellor Olaf Scholz had to put up with a lot.

The best sayings of the 2024 Lenten speech: The politicians had to listen to this

A lot has happened in Bavarian politics since last year's Nockherberg.

The election campaign for the state elections in October 2023 was particularly challenging.

The tone between the parties is correspondingly sharp.

Schafroth denounced this and much more in his Lenten speech.

Here is a selection of his harshest sayings:

  • To Söder and Aiwanger: “A spiral of verbal armament is what you have delivered over the last twelve months.”

  • On the political language of Söder and Aiwanger: “Let’s push democracy to its limits, like the old diesel on the Reschenpass.

(...) Away from the boring facts.

    Towards emotion.”

  • To Söder and Aiwanger: “You have a verbal mess together.”

  • To Aiwanger: “You have mutated into a political wood splitter.

Because foresters and log burners know: split wood is better for lighting.

If there is such a healthy, grown trunk left, there is no room for bark beetles like you!”

The derblecken was pretty hearty this year, with Lenten speaker Schafroth sharply criticizing the political celebrities.

Aiwanger's note affair was mentioned several times in Schafroth's speech.

As a reminder: Last year, the Free Voters leader had to defend himself against accusations of having written an anti-Semitic leaflet while he was at school.

Aiwanger vehemently rejected this.

Instead, his brother described himself as the author.

This is how Schafroth took up the topic:

  • “The CSU is green with envy.

Markus immediately advertised under the code: Politician, 57, looking for brother to outsource moral risks.”

  • Schafroth himself briefly acted as if he had not written the nasty sayings he uttered during his speech - and hinted at blaming his brother.

Söder laughed and clapped during this sequence.

  • A small interlude was inserted: several Aiwangers appeared on stage with empty school bags and sang, among other things, in reference to a controversial speech by Aiwanger at a rally: “Where is democracy?”

Criticism also of the Greens, the SPD and the traffic light government - praise for a politician

But it wasn't just Aiwanger and Söder who were targeted, although Bavaria's two government politicians were also the most severely criticized.

Here are a few more sayings that caused a laugh at the Nockherberg - and probably did.

  • On politics in Bavaria: “We don’t need weed, we’re drunk even without drugs.”

  • “Markus Söder has a body tension like an infant whose pacifier has been taken away.”

  • On the Chancellor: “Olaf has fallen into a state of shock in Berlin”

  • Regarding the traffic light: It looks “incredibly awkward, put together completely wrong”

  • Regarding the traffic lights: “It also requires an incredible amount of skill when one person shifts gears, another engages the clutch, and the only one who has a driver’s license turns the ignition key and then goes to sleep in the back.”

  • To the Greens: “Full of ideals, but in the end very overwhelmed by reality.”

And: The greens are like a smoothie: “It used to be in, but it was too expensive in the long run.”

  • To SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert: “An SPD member with a mandate has a lot of flavor in Bavaria.”

On the other hand, there was praise for Ilse Aigner.

The President of the Bavarian State Parliament is characterized by her good and respectful tone.

Lenten speech at Nockherberg: Clear words to the AfD, message to the voters

Shortly before the end of the Lenten speech, Schafroth also addressed the AfD and its voters.

“Dear blue people out there: If you don't feel it, then you'll walk over hot coals or whatever.

But leave what people who came from war, suffering and persecution have built and democratized here, leave them in peace.

I'm speechless sometimes, really, when I hear you like that.

Maybe everyone with a migrant background in this country should go on strike for a day.

Then you would have another reason to visit your parents in the nursing home.”

Finally, a final aside: “You could do things differently starting tomorrow, dear Blues.

You could say: right-wing extremists have no place in our party.

Point.

Then there aren't many of you anymore... And the few that are left are still extremely unpleasant, relentless, merciless, and your icy looks frighten me.

Derblecken 2024: How did the politicians react?

In his first reaction in the BR, Söder commented positively on the Lenten speech: “Nice overall”.

He noted that there have been real high points and some low points.

Some aspects were presented incorrectly and exaggeratedly, and some people were given too much prominence.

Aiwanger made it clear that he had expected it to be worse and that he could “live with it”.

Despite the controversy surrounding the traffic light heating law, he defended his behavior.

The Lenten sermon was followed by the musical play in which actors parody the politicians.

It should be noted that being parodied and mocked at the Nockherberg is ultimately seen as a privilege.

The “worst thing” for political leaders is not to be mentioned at all.
