As Paris prepares to welcome the whole world during the Olympic Games next summer, the price of rentals is already soaring to more than 1,000 euros per night on average in the capital.
Taking advantage of the expected influx of tourists, its residents are increasingly turning to exchanging houses to go on vacation themselves.
This concept allows you to stay free of charge with a resident, who himself stays with you in the meantime.
HomeExchange, a world leader in the field, recorded a 210% increase in transactions in Paris during the Olympics period compared to the same time a year earlier.
“Unsurprisingly, Paris, Montreuil, Asnières-sur-Seine, Versailles and Saint-Denis are the most popular cities, i.e. the cities around which the events will take place,” underline those responsible for the platform.
“To date, the region alone plans to welcome nearly 2,740 house exchangers from July 26 to August 11, an increase of 241% compared to the previous year at the same period.
This represents nearly 700 stays (+242%), or 22,570 nights (+231%).

Nearly 3,000 house exchangers
According to HomeExchange, visitors to the Olympics come mainly from France, Spain, England, the United States and the Netherlands.
“The Olympic Games are an opportunity for us to highlight our concept and our ambition: to make holidays accessible to everyone, at any time of the year, through values such as, among others, sharing and authenticity.
With 35% of the vacation budget that can be saved per week by exchanging homes, it is all the more important for us, in this type of context, to allow as many people as possible to travel, and to offer passionate about the opportunity to experience, up close, this large-scale sporting event,” explains Charles-Édouard Girard, co-founder of HomeExchange.
A less expensive alternative according to him for visitors compared to a rental fleet whose prices have exploded for the event.
