Market Swabia's mayor Michael Stolze (54) surprisingly announced his resignation.
He has recently been heavily criticized because of a planned asylum accommodation.
Markt Schwaben - Surprising to many, the first mayor of Markt Schwaben, Michael Stolze, announced his resignation at the end of May this morning in front of the assembled workforce in the town hall.
The
Ebersberger Zeitung
found out exclusively.
The town hall's press office has announced a corresponding press release for the early afternoon, which is reportedly still being finalized at the moment.
Mayor summons parliamentary group spokespersons and deputies to a special meeting in town hall
The initially non-public announcement to employees then quickly made the rounds.
When asked by
EZ
in the morning, the head of public relations, Sabrina Biertz, confirmed the accuracy of the initial rumor.
This evening, Stolze spontaneously invited the members of the so-called advisory board, i.e. the parliamentary group spokesmen, the two mayoral deputies and some members of the administration, to a special meeting by email.
It will most likely only be about his resignation.
The district office is examining the legal consequences of the resignation: There will be new elections
Over the course of today's lunchtime, local councilors gradually became aware of what was announced in the town hall that morning.
3. When asked by the EZ,
Mayor Raphael Brandes spontaneously expressed his
surprise at Stolz's move.
Michael Stolze may have underestimated the office he won against several competitors in the last local elections in 2020.
120 refugees are to be accommodated in this building on Ziegelstadl.
The district's plan caused horror among many citizens.
They therefore turned to the local council and Mayor Stolze with a citizens' petition.
However, his hands are tied.

In the press office of the district office they already knew about the things that were happening in Markt Schwaben in the morning.
The legal supervision department is currently examining what legal consequences Stolz's announcement will have.
In any case, the town hall says, there will be new elections.
It seems unlikely that this could be carried out in connection with the European elections at the beginning of June.
Mayor Stolze recently faced criticism over planned asylum accommodation in Markt Schwaben
Stolze is still considered a very popular mayor, although he faced strong opposition from some quarters in connection with the recent debates about an asylum seekers' home in Burgerfeld (Am Ziegelstadel).
For example, at the sometimes turbulent meeting on December 18th in the theater hall, the former CSU councilwoman Anja Zwittlinger-Fritz accused Stolze of finally doing his work in the interests of the citizens of Markt Schwaben and less in the interests of the district (it was about the in principle anything but a simple search for locations for asylum accommodation).
Stolze has not yet commented on the reasons for his resignation.
