After the attack on two children near a Duisburg elementary school, the students there are receiving school psychological care.
Today and in the coming days, the school will be closely monitored by school supervision and school psychology, the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Education said on Wednesday.
In an initial reaction, NRW Schools Minister Dorothee Feller (CDU) was “shocked” that “two children became victims of an act of violence on their way to school.”
Duisburg - According to initial information from police circles, a 21-year-old suspect attacked the children with a flashlight and a knife and seriously injured them.
After the attack, the two children could have escaped to a primary school two blocks away.
There, a teacher came to help them, the police reported.
Both were then taken to the hospital.
“Any act like this is terrible, especially when two very young people, who should be given our very special protection, have to go through something like that, it deeply dismays me.
My thoughts are with the two children, their parents, families and friends as well as the teachers at the school,” continued Feller (CDU).
She hopes that the children will recover quickly.
The affected primary school will now receive all the support it needs.
The responsible district government also referred to the school psychologists who were already on site in addition to pastoral care.
A spokeswoman for the district government said school psychology is currently discussing how to proceed with the school management, such as what discussion and support offers and information are available for parents.
