For the first time since 2017, the citizens of Schwaig can look forward to a new, impressive maypole.
It is already clear which specimen it is that will be set up on May 1st in the traditional way, i.e. purely by muscle power.
Schwaig – The Moosmotor Schwaig cultural association invited representatives of other local associations to the forest to face the agony of choice.
In order to ultimately be on the safe side - after all, damage could occur when felling - the participants shortlisted five spruce trees.
On a Sunday morning, a team from the moss motor went out.
He was supported by the Schwaig volunteer fire department and guided by the local forestry master Thomas Hobmeier.
It worked right away with the first tree; it was felled undamaged and was therefore chosen as the Maypole for 2024.
Shortly afterwards, the team started plowing, i.e. removing the tree bark.
Before that, there was a refreshment with potato soup and children's punch. The Moosmotor members thanked Catering Ascher for providing it free of charge.
Club chairman Michael Miesbauer was happy and emphasized that the maypole was a symbol of cohesion and living tradition within a place.
It is therefore obvious that his club would take on this task; after all, he is committed to preserving and maintaining customs and culture.
The tree lies hidden in the forest for the next few months, then a few days before May 1st it is brought to the Heiglhof and finished there until it is set up - and of course also guarded.
There is already great anticipation that after seven years we will finally have a magnificent specimen back in town.
