Almost three months before the start of the new season, the municipality of Peiting can report success in recruiting personnel for the outdoor wave pool.

Quite spicy: The specialist who is supposed to strengthen the team around lifeguard Markus Häringer most recently worked in the Weilheim indoor swimming pool.

Peiting – Peiting's outdoor wave pool has recently looked back on turbulent years.

In 2021, the popular facility had to be closed for several weeks during the season because children cut themselves on sharp-edged tiles.

A year later they couldn't open at all due to a lack of staff.

Last season was threatened with the same fate when three bathroom employees threw down shortly before the start.

Only at the last second was a solution found to at least ensure operations with limited opening hours.

We definitely want to open it this year too.

At the end of last season, Mayor Peter Ostenrieder was able to announce an important decision.

He announced that the collaboration with lifeguard Markus Häringer and the lifeguard team could be continued.

It was thanks to their efforts that the community of Peitingen did not have to go without their bathroom for another year.

At the same time, the town hall boss announced that the municipality wanted to find another permanent employee for the facility.

Without reinforcements, Ostenrieder made no secret of this, normal operation of the outdoor pool would hardly be possible in 2024.

A search for the proverbial needle in a haystack, as skilled workers in this field are few and far between.

The community wants to train more skilled workers itself

But it was apparently successful, as managing director Stefan Kort now tells the local newspaper when asked.

A master for pool operations has been found.

According to Kort, the employment contract should be signed soon.

What's quite piquant about the personnel is where the new man for the outdoor wave pool comes from.

According to Kort, he most recently worked at the Weilheim indoor swimming pool, where his departure certainly leaves a painful gap.

As reported, the district committee recently dealt with the personnel concerns that plague the aging facility.

“As of July, we only have one employee at the indoor swimming pool in Weilheim,” warned district treasurer Norbert Merk.

However, Kort sees the market community as less to blame for this situation than the empty labor market.

The shortage of skilled workers in this profession is extreme and no new ones are being recruited.

Accordingly, the specialist employees can choose where they want to work, says the manager.

And people in Peiting seem to have left a good impression over the summer.

Kort explains that the new employee who has now been found has already helped out at the Peitinger Bad last season.

“He knows the facility, the visitors and the staff.” For this reason, too, the manager is not worried that the new man, like his predecessors, might suddenly change his mind.

“I don’t think this will happen again,” says Kort, referring to the last-minute layoffs of the pool staff at the time shortly before the start of the season.

With the new personnel, the option is now open again to do something about the shortage of skilled workers as a community.

In order to train your own offspring, however, you need the support of an indoor swimming pool during the winter months, says Kort.

“We are working on the issue.” The market has already found a candidate for the training position.

According to the mayor, she will be able to gain practical experience as a hired lifeguard over the summer.
