The results of the local elections led to a series of changes in the staffing of women mayors throughout Israel.

Along with the loss of women in the cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv, a victory was recorded in several other cities, such as Kiryat Ono and Netanya.

In the dramatic election process in Beit Shemesh, the incumbent mayor Aliza Bloch will go on to a second round against an opponent.

The most resounding failure belongs to the outgoing mayor of Haifa, Einat Kalish-Rotem, who suffered severe discrimination.

The resounding loss in this year's elections came at the end of a term saturated with harsh criticism against her, during which her city council even approved a resolution calling for her to resign.

In Haifa, 12 candidates ran for mayor this year, including only two women, Kalish-Rotem and Sharit Golan-Steinberg, who won 4.5% and 4.6% respectively.

The leading contender who qualified for the second round of elections is Yona Yahav with 36.3%.

Kalish-Rotem, who won the majority of votes for the first time in the local elections in 2018, finished sixth.

Severe discrimination.

In Beit Shemesh, the incumbent mayor Aliza Bloch managed to qualify for a second round of elections, when she faced Shmuel Greenberg, who won slightly more votes than her - 35.7% against 32.4%.

The third candidate, Moshe Abutbol, received 31.9% of the votes.

Bloch is the closest option to the seculars, the Detalim and some of the modern ultra-Orthodox who are not interested in living the ultra-orthodox standard: those who are looking for advancement alongside studying the Torah. She ran a relatively quiet campaign compared to the other candidates, who concentrated on action in the last five years - and not on a negative one.

The two won respectively by 43.4% and 40.1%.

Besides them, there were three other candidates for mayor, including another woman: Tali Molner.

Fierberg has served as mayor of Netanya for 25 years, and this will be her sixth consecutive term.

The candidate for mayor of Tel Aviv, Orna Barbiei, lost to mayor Ron Huldai, who will continue to serve another term, sixth in number.

Upon receiving the results of the elections, she admitted her loss to Huldai, and said: "Good luck to Ron Huldai who will continue to serve as mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. Thank you to the great public that supported me and all the partners along the way."

Another candidate who ran against the two is Yuval Zellner, who ran on behalf of the New Hope party.

Barbiei, a former Knesset member from Yesh Atid, announced her candidacy for the position in June of last year, and resigned from the Knesset as a result.

Gal wrote about this: "Ten years of action, of vision and service for all the residents of Kiryat Ono have ended. Congratulations to Michal Rosenshein, the elected mayor, and to the elected members of the city council."
