Library director Doreen Kleiner looks back on the past year with great satisfaction.

All numbers have increased - and the reading café is booming.

Gauting

– 2023 was a good year for the Gauting library: “We were able to make significant progress and observe positive developments,” explains director Doreen Kleiner.

After the challenges of recent years, the library has once again established itself as a “lively meeting place for all generations”.

The reading café in particular is very popular.

The number of visitors reflects this development.

Last year, the library welcomed an average of 149 guests per day.

According to the press release, all figures increased compared to the previous year.

The library had 2,518 active users (including 1,123 children and young people up to 18 years of age) and a total of 33,358 visitors.

“This not only underlines the attractiveness of our offering, but also the important and growing role of the library as an educational and cultural center,” emphasizes Kleiner.

A total of 97 events for children and adults were organized last year.

The focus was also on promoting reading.

In June, the library received an award from Bayernwerk for its success, the “Bookmark” worth 1,000 euros.

This financial support was reinvested in the purchase of new media for children.

“Our entire team is passionate about promoting reading among children and young people, and this recognition further motivates us,” says Kleiner.

Another highlight was the introduction of the seed library in spring 2023. Free seeds of various plants can be borrowed regardless of a library card.

Returning some of the obtained or new seeds for the next season promotes a sustainable exchange and supports the preservation of traditional varieties and the promotion of biodiversity.

“The positive feedback in the first year confirms that our community is open to sustainable initiatives,” explains the library director.

The start of the second seed season was February 27th.

Library director Doreen Kleiner is optimistic about the future: “We are continuing on our path to further strengthen the Gauting library as a place of knowledge, encounters and inspiration.”
