The Penzberg Greens event “Women among themselves” addressed the question: How do women imagine their Penzberg?

The next meeting is coming up.

Penzberg – “How would women design their city?” and “What does that mean for the future design of Penzberg?”

18 women discussed these questions at the Penzberg Greens’ “Women among themselves” event at the Bürgerbahnhof.

The meetings, which were launched in 2021 and take place approximately three times a year, are purely for exchange, according to Anette Orth - board spokeswoman for the local Greens association and co-organizer of the series of discussions.

It's not about finding the "golden path", but about taking suggestions home with you or simply seeing how other women deal with certain issues, as Orth later reported to the Rundschau.

Next meeting: “Money - What’s that to me?”

The Green Party's women's discussion group “Women among themselves” continues.

On Thursday (February 29th) the topic will be money.

It starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Bürgerbahnhof in Penzberg.

Penzberg ladies discuss male norms

What, according to Orth, “particularly affects women” is discussed.

The last round was about urban design – from a female perspective.

In the run-up to the event, the 65-year-old co-initiator dealt with urban planning.

The norm is still the city planned by men, which is often created from the “driver’s perspective” and sets the priority of getting to work as quickly as possible by car.

From a female perspective, other things have priority, explains Orth: women are more likely to take on household tasks and look after children or relatives.

This creates different requirements for the environment.

For example, a nearby daycare center, good shopping opportunities and parks that can be meeting places and serve for leisure activities.

A perfect Penzberg when talking to women

This was also reflected in the wishes of the women.

For them, a perfect Penzberg could look like this: The workplace is close to home, short distances to shopping, the post office and the doctor.

The kindergarten can be reached on foot.

After work and on weekends, you go to leafy squares and parks that invite you to linger and create space for encounters.

Cafés and shops are located in a car-free pedestrian zone.

Basically, much less car traffic in the city and more bicycle streets and local public transport were on the wish list.

A living environment that promotes togetherness is important to the women.

The tenor was that there was a particular lack of places to linger in Penzberg.

The only place in the city center where you can linger is the town hall square.

The neighboring town square was criticized as not worth spending time in.

It was also suggested that cyclists and pedestrians be given more space.

One idea was that residential areas should be designed like small centers.

They want Penzberg to have green plants and attractive architecture.

Penzberg has some charms according to the ladies of the women's conversation

But of course Penzberg also has its advantages.

People here know each other and, thanks to the small town character, are “secure in what is manageable,” says Orth.

With the train station, supermarkets and doctors, there is a wide range of options and good connections.

Orth remains firm: women need to be more involved in urban planning.

“Smaller solutions”, of a pragmatic nature, along the lines of “How can you improve this” would suit women.

“You don’t always need a big hit,” says the 65-year-old.

Women compensated for infrastructural deficits in a neighborhood with creativity and organizational talent.
