Meir Zur, head of the Middle Arava Regional Council, paid tribute to Major Yeftah Shahar and said that he was wise and a leader. "Yeftah was a perfect child," he said. "He was a warrior, handsome and valuable.
He loved his family, Moshav Paran where he grew up and the Araba and its people.
From a young age he was a leader, and we knew he had high commanding qualities.
He aspired to continue serving in the IDF. Yiftah served as a police officer in Seldah until two weeks ago, when he was appointed to the position of police officer in Givati and was killed today in the battle in Gaza. His brother is a fighter in the armor, he was wounded in Gaza a month ago. Education is a leader in the Arava. I hug the Shahar family, and the friends and mourn the death of the beloved and wonderful Yeftah, on behalf of all the residents of the Arava."
