The “Oberland Werkstätten” are getting a new facility in Weilheim.

They are moving into a building that used to be the headquarters of a fashion company.

Polling/Weilheim

– At the “Oberland Werkstätten” (OLW) in the Weilheim region, a long-held wish is coming true: the “Oberland Impuls” work area for people with mental illnesses is moving from Polling to Weilheim.

A suitable location was found on Paradeisstraße, to which another area of the OLW is also moving.

Flexible working hours are particularly important for people with mental disabilities, says OLW regional manager Hermann Soyer.

However, the conditions at the current location of “Oberland Impuls” on Obermühlstrasse in Polling are not favorable for this.

The nearest bus stop is about a kilometer away from the workshops and is only used a few times a day.

The new location at Paradeisstrasse 71 in Weilheim offers completely different conditions: The building, which formerly belonged to the headquarters of the fashion company “K+L”, can be reached in around ten minutes on foot from the train station, and there is a city bus connection.

“A much more flexible working time structure is possible,” says Soyer.

In addition, employees in Weilheim could do shopping and other things.

Work areas are to be significantly expanded

“There are large, bright rooms available in which we can offer our work opportunities for people with mental illnesses in the middle of a social space,” says the regional manager about the new OLW branch.

According to Soyer, around 25 mentally ill people are moving to a new workplace with four group leaders.

The aim is to be able to offer jobs to at least 35 affected people in Weilheim in the future - in assembly as well as at computers.

The “Oberland Impuls” department, in which Jasmin Rosskopf and Anton Sepp work, is moving from Polling to the district town.

But the approximately 1,400 square meters on two floors (ground floor and basement) that the OLW rents in Weilheim are not only used for the “Oberland Impuls” area.

A contact point will also be created for people with disabilities who work in company-integrated individual workplaces or in the general labor market - i.e. outside of the OLW operations.

The two so-called job coaches, who currently look after around ten such employees in the “Oberland work assistance” area, will in future be working at the new location instead of in Polling.

This field of activity, for which an office, a meeting room and a training room will be set up on Paradeistrasse, is also to be significantly expanded.

Renovation is scheduled to start in March

The planning phase for the move of the two OLW areas is currently still underway.

“The renovation by the landlord will start in March,” announces Soyer.

The “Oberland Werkstätten” want to start renovation work themselves in April.

The move should then take place in the summer.

According to Soyer, the search for new rooms for the OLW in Weilheim has been going on for five years.

Many locations that were considered at this time were then ruled out because they were difficult to reach from the train station.
