On Friday, the Kelheim district will decide on the future of the emergency room at the Mainburg hospital.

Mayors from the Freising district position themselves clearly.

Hallertau

- The Mainburg hospital is an important facility for the northern district of Freising: Not only is it quick to reach in an emergency, but you also receive very good medical care there, the mayors of the northern communities agreed at the press conference on Tuesday Nandlstadt agree.

That's why we want to support the “Save the Mainburg Hospital” initiative and work to maintain the emergency room.

Rudelzhausen's mayor Michael Krumbucher has been treated at the Mainburg hospital several times and has always been completely satisfied, as he said.

He also values the hospital as an excellent provider after accidents at work, for example.

“For us there is nothing other than the Mainburg Hospital,” he said – also considering the distance.

Hörgertshausen's mayor Michael Hobmaier echoed the same sentiments.

Even from his community you can be at the Mainburg hospital within a few minutes.

If the emergency room there were to be closed due to the planned restructuring, it would be a “devaluation for the entire region”.

Core: Hold politicians accountable

Attenkirchen's town hall boss Mathias Kern emphasized that the state and federal parliament members from the Freising district must be held “responsible” and asked to “take action in this field”.

If no solution could be found for the Mainburg hospital, the rescue associations would have to look for “worse alternative solutions” in order to be able to transport patients to the hospitals.

“We also incur costs there,” says Kern.

Beatrix Sebald, 3rd mayor of Au, criticized Prime Minister Markus Söder: As recently as Ash Wednesday, Söder spoke out in favor of maintaining rural hospitals - "a week later, the Mainburg hospital is just a health center," she said.

“That doesn’t make sense to me.”

Nandlstadt's mayor Gerhard Betz recalled how important the Mainburg hospital was during the corona pandemic: When beds were scarce, people were happy about the small hospitals.

“Two years later we forgot all about it.

I don’t understand things like that.”

Petz: “A brilliant idea is needed”

District Administrator Helmut Petz was not as combative as the mayors.

Sure: “The Freising hospital is often deregistered,” he admitted, which is why patients often have to be taken to surrounding hospitals – including Mainburg.

Nevertheless, it is always important to keep an eye on finances.

Basically, “good medical care can cost something.

The only question is how much." In response to Gerhard Betz's statement that the district had let the Moosburg hospital die many years ago, he said: "Moosburg had a deficit of 20 million marks - it was simply no longer affordable." In principle, the district is open to cooperation, but in the Mainburg case a “brilliant idea” is needed.

“The better the idea, the cheaper it will be.”

Cooperation is currently not lucrative

According to Petz, the emergency room at the Freising Clinic is “deficient”.

“Why do we keep them anyway?

Firstly, because we need an emergency room for people, and secondly, because it is a prerequisite for other departments where money is also made.

The bottom line is that there will be a tolerable deficit.”

From an economic point of view, one would currently not benefit from a cooperation with Mainburg.

But if there was a “better idea” for cooperation, we would be welcome to talk about it, said Petz.

But you always have to ask yourself the question: “How much money do you want to spend on medical care.”

Mainburg's mayor Helmut Fichtner, who is "happy and grateful for the support from the Freising district", hopes that the Kelheim district councilors will still vote in favor of maintaining the Mainburg emergency room at the crucial meeting this Friday, March 1st.

Only then can we “work out solutions,” says Fichtner.

The Mainburg town hall boss gratefully accepted the expression of solidarity from his fellow mayors from the Freising district.
