A federal police officer shot dead
a criminal in the chest
who tried to rob at gunpoint the car in which he was traveling with his partner, also a force agent.
It happened on Wednesday night, when the couple stopped to buy chocolates at a kiosk in the Buenos Aires town of Longchamps, Almirante Brown district.
The episode was recorded on video by a security camera, which showed the moment in which the couple was intercepted, the beginning of the shots and the criminals fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred minutes before 11 p.m. at the intersection of Rivadavia and Pelayo streets, in the south of the Conurbano.
Carla Vanina Ramona Duarte
(24) and her partner
Ángel Ignacio Calvo
(23), both officers of the Federal Police (PFA), were traveling in civilian clothes aboard a Chevrolet Prisma.
At that place, the police couple decided to stop to buy chocolates at a kiosk, so Calvo got out of the car and headed to the business.
A Citroën C3 passed them and braked a few meters ahead.
At least two armed criminals got out of it, intercepted the police officers and demanded that they hand over the vehicle.
At that moment, Duarte, who was in the passenger seat, identified himself as police personnel, pulled out his service weapon and began shooting at the robbers.
"Stop, police, get on the ground
," was the order the officer gave before starting to shoot, according to investigation sources.
Next, the criminals and the policewoman had an armed confrontation, which led to the
death on the asphalt
of one of the assailants after being shot in the chest.
Judicial spokespersons, according to the
Télam
agency , assured that the deceased had with him a 22-caliber revolver with suppressed numbers, while three served casings belonging to said firearm were seized.
Finally, the informants indicated that the identity of the thief had not yet been established, while his body was transferred to the Lomas de Zamora judicial morgue to perform the corresponding autopsy.
The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 3 of Almirante Brown intervened in the incident, led by prosecutor Juan Manuel Baloira, who for the moment did not take any attitude toward the police, while trying to determine the circumstances of what happened.
