As of 30 June 2023, the VIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) procedures filed with the offices of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security concerned projects for a total of 68,220 Gw, an increase of +142% compared to 2022. But of these, only 5.2 % has reached conclusion.
This was revealed by Filippo Girardi, president of AnieConfindustria, the association of electrotechnical and electronics companies, at a conference at the Key renewables fair in Rimini.
For Girardi, "the availability in our country of an excellent technological offer on the electricity supply chain today falls within a scenario of major delays in the path towards decarbonisation. The latest available data show still insufficient growth in the installation of new production plants from renewable sources. In During 2023, 5,677 GW came into operation, a robust increase compared to 2022 (2,927 GW, +94%), but not even half of what would be needed to achieve the European decarbonisation objectives by 2030, i.e. around 10 GW more per year".
This delay is confirmed by data from Anie Confindustria's Storage Systems Observatory: as of 30 June last year there were 386,039 storage systems (SdA) installed, for a total power of 3.045 GW and a maximum capacity of 4.893 Gwh, driven by Lombardy (75,719 installations for a power of 0.583 Gw and a capacity of 0.930 Gwh), followed by Veneto (53,654 installations for 0.414 Gw and 0.722 Gwh) and Emilia-Romagna (38,690 installations for 0.307 Gw and 0.470 Gwh).
Although the trend change in the first half of 2023 shows a +100% compared to the number of installations in 2022, the economic change between the first and second quarters of 2023 shows a market slowing down by -19%.
