MILAN - In the year of the centenary of the death of Eleonora Duse, the Vittoriale degli Italiani inaugurates the spring season on March 9th with the celebration 'I have crowned wisdom today and lit the great fire', a phrase taken from a telegram from Gabriele d'Annunzio to Luisa Baccara.

Among the inaugurations of the day, new restored and redeveloped spaces of the Vittoriale, from the library at the back of the Prioria, to the Kennel, from the Torre degli Archivi to the Cortile degli Schiavoni, passing through the Portico del Parente: a construction site always open with the aim of restoring it to the public as d'Annunzio had desired.

"The solemn phrase that gives the event its title - says the president of the Vittoriale Giordano Bruno Guerri - is justified by the enormous amount of work that took place during the winter at the Vittoriale".

Two new exhibitions will also open to the public in spring: one with works from the first artistic phase of Umberto Boccioni, never before exhibited to the public, and the other with a selection of works by the Viareggio painter Alfredo Catarsini.

An exhibition space will also be set up with some objects by Eleonora Duse.

"Finally - concludes Guerri - the Great Fire will shine on a tribute to Eleonora Duse, on the centenary of her death. It is only the beginning of a year which, event after event, we want to be triumphal".

The party will be an opportunity to inaugurate the year of the hundredth anniversary of the death of the divine Eleonora Duse (Vigevano 1858 - Pittsburgh 1924), one of the greatest Italian actresses of all time and d'Annunzio's troubled love.

The celebrations will therefore open from the Vittoriale, with the Municipality of Asolo, Pierfranco Bruni, member of the National Committee for the celebrations of the death of Duse and Carlo Mangolini, ATCG director of the Teatro Stabile del Veneto.
