Italian director Paolo Taviani died in a Rome clinic aged 92 Thursday after a short illness, six years after his brother and long-time collaborator Antonio with whom he made a string of critically acclaimed movies.
Antonio Taviani died on April 14, 2018.
Paolo dies in the arms of his wife Lina Nerli and his children Ermanno and Valentina, the family said.
At the Cannes Film Festival, the Taviani brothers won the Palmed'Or for cult classic Padre Padrone in 1977 and the Grand Prixdu Jury for La notte di San Lorenzo (The Night of the ShootingStars) in 1982. In 2012
they won the Golden Bear at the Berlin InternationalFilm Festival with Caesar Must Die.
