Liguria is the leading region for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, Val d'Aosta is the queen of renewables, Trentino is the champion for the energy efficiency of buildings, Calabria is ahead in organic farming.
Lorivela Ciro (Climate Indicators for Italian Regions), the new platform of Italy for Climate (study center of the Foundation for sustainable development) which collects good environmental practices of the Italian Regions.
The platform was presented in Rimini at the Key renewables fair.
Liguria is the leading region in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions per capita.
The value has been reduced by 65%, beyond the 2030 objective of the green deal, above all thanks to the reduction in the use of coal: in 1990 it represented 60% of energy needs and in 2021 5%.
In terms of forestry absorption, Tuscany is the second best performing region, with 270 tons of CO2 absorbed for every square km.
Campania and Sicily are the most virtuous in terms of final energy consumption per capita, thanks to a particularly mild climate which requires lower heating needs.
Standing out in the field of renewable energy, with a record share of 97.6% of the total energy consumed, is the Aosta Valley, the historic region of Italian hydroelectric power.
Veneto, on the other hand, stands out for the number of renewable energy communities (Cer) activated, 13 in 2022 alone.
It is Trentino that stands out for the share of class A buildings (the most efficient from an energy point of view), while in the southern regions there are record levels of electricity consumption.
