Alexander Lukashenko is considered one of Vladimir Putin's closest allies.
A resistance group wants to overthrow the Belarusian ruler - if necessary by force.
Minsk – A group living in exile is apparently planning a coup against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
The militant resistance group BYPOL has drawn up a plan and will put it into action "at the right time," the resistance group's leader, Aliaksandr Azarau, told Belgian media outlet
VRT
.
BYPOL is also planning to execute Lukashenko “at the right time,”
Politico
reported .
The group is working on the coup plans from Poland, where it is also training troops from the Kalinovsky Regiment to fight against Russia on the Ukrainian front.
According to VRT,
the resistance group consists
of former Belarusian police officers and soldiers.
Azarau himself was previously an employee of the Belarusian secret service.
Coup against Lukashenko planned – Belarusian resistance group supports Ukraine
For a coup against Lukashenko to work, Ukraine must win the war against Vladimir Putin's Russia, Azarau said.
Russia supports the pro-Russian ruler and has threatened to have soldiers crush protests against Lukashenko.
At the beginning of 2023, documents were published that are supposed to show that Putin wants to annex Belarus by 2030.

“If Ukraine can launch a successful offensive, Putin will no longer have time for Belarus,” Azarau said.
That is why the group is actively involved in the Ukraine war, for example by using its own drones against Russian aircraft.
In addition, BYPOL sabotaged the Belarusian railway at the beginning of the Russian invasion, which is also said to have caused problems for Putin's troops.
Belarusian exiles are training in Poland to fight against Lukashenko
If necessary, the resistance group is planning a violent overthrow in Belarus, which is why, according to Azarau, the members are being trained by Polish special forces.
Hundreds of members have already been trained for a possible fight against Lukashenko.
Nevertheless, Azarau hopes for a peaceful transfer of power.
There is great support for the group's project.
It is possible for Belarusian citizens to register online to support the resistance against Lukashenko.
200,000 people had already registered to contribute to a coup with barricades, crowds and traffic jams, said Azarau.
If Ukraine were to achieve military success against Russia, its plans against the government of Belarus would be put into action.

The opposition in Belarus is being categorically suppressed,
Belarusian opposition politician Svetlana Tikhanovskaya told IPPEN.MEDIA
in November.
“It is impossible to do anything visible within the country,” Tikhanovskaya explained.
The “use of physical violence and torture by the state authorities” has become normal, said Eastern Europe expert Martin Schulze Wessel.
Every citizen of the country could become a victim of this repressive system.
“Western politics must start from the knowledge that the worst form of dictatorship prevails in Belarus,” said Schulze Wessel.
If you are critical of Lukashenko, you risk having your citizenship revoked.
In addition, the Belarusian ruler has ordered that Belarusians living abroad can no longer apply for a passport in an embassy.
Opposition members are therefore forced to return to the country, where they then risk imprisonment.
