Duferco announces the development of a green hydrogen production hub in Sicily at the Giammoro production plant in Messina.

A technology that will help increase the island's level of energy independence from a sustainable perspective.

The project promoted by Duferco, in collaboration with Caronte and Nippon Gases Italia, aims to develop a HydrogenValley capable of producing approximately 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, via a 4 MW photovoltaic system and a 1 MW electrolyser. The green hydrogen produced it will be destined to fuel the industries of the surrounding area.

The operation will be carried out with an investment of 10 million euros, of which 7.5 million will be financed under the Hydrogen Valleys tender of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, through the Sicilian Region.

The Hydrogen Valley in Sicily "will contribute to the achievement of one of the main European objectives in the energy transition as envisaged by RePowerEU", says Antonio Gozzi, president of Duferco.

"It is - he adds - a project that supports businesses and the territory and which contributes to the increase in the island's related industries. The energy transition will be a concrete challenge only if it involves employment and economic development. Otherwise, the risk is that it will always remain too much of a mission ambitious".
