The owner family searched for a buyer in a complex process, the company announced on Wednesday (February 28).

The process will now be successfully completed with the sale of all shares in the company.

A Lamy spokeswoman did not provide any information about the selling price upon request.

Lamy was looking for a strong partner to further develop the growth area of ​​digital writing and expand international sales, it said.

Vera Lamy, former co-partner of C. Josef Lamy GmbH, explained according to the statement: “We attached great importance to finding a company that brings the strength and heart, together with the Lamy employees and together with all of our partners to open a new Lamy chapter.” According to her brother and co-partner Markus Lamy, the core of the brand should be retained and developed further.

“‘Made in Germany’ will continue to play a crucial role,” he added.

Mitsubishi Pencil wants to accelerate Lamy's technological development

The new owner Mitsubishi Pencil looks back on 137 years of company history and today employs more than 2,700 people worldwide.

The company also has 22 sales offices internationally and operates 11 production facilities.

The Japanese should now ensure the preservation of the headquarters and production at the Heidelberg location.

At the same time, Mitsubishi Pencil wants to accelerate Lamy's technological development.

According to the announcement, this technological development will particularly include the growth area of ​​digital writing as well as innovations in manufacturing.

Steffen Rübke, CEO of C. Josef Lamy GmbH said: “We are sure that the Mitsubishi Pencil Company, with its innovation orientation, its large sales network and its strong e-commerce expertise - as well as its business success with Amazon in the US Market proven – will strengthen the company and the Lamy brand.”

The family business, founded in 1930, is one of the leading design brands in the writing instrument sector.

According to its own information, it employs more than 340 people and has sales outlets in over 80 countries.
