The iconic Fiat Panda will continue to be produced at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant in the southern Campania region until at least 2027, Fiat CEO and globalmarketing director of Stellantis Olivier Francois said onThursday.
Production will increase by around 20% from mid-March, he added.
The Fiat Panda has been manufactured at Pomigliano since 2011.
On Thursday Francois also unveiled the new Fiat Pandina specialseries to coincide with the anniversary of the presentation of the first Panda to then President Sandro Pertini on February 29,1980.
Earlier this month Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the Italo-Franco-US group needed "all the Italian plants" to meet the stated target of producing one million vehicles in Italy per year.
He had previously sparked union alarm by saying some plantsmight be threatened unless the group got major subsidies from the government to make electric cars.
