With the election of Jens Müller (UWK) as the new mayor of Kochl, a place on the local council became available.

Maria Bäck (41, UWK) was sworn in at the most recent meeting.

A lively discussion developed about the related items.

You would think that filling a spot on the local council wouldn't be a big deal.

After all, the procedure is clearly dictated by the place on the list achieved in the last local elections in 2020.

With the election of Jens Müller (UWK) as the new mayor of Kochel, it was UWK colleague Maria Bäck's turn.

Debate in the Kochel local council about the new councilor's areas of responsibility

It was not the new face on the local council that caused lively discussions in the committee, but rather the areas of responsibility that were assigned to her.

“This is exclusively about committees and departments in which I was previously represented,” explained Mayor Müller.

In the future, Bäck will work on the main and finance committee, the tourism committee, the audit committee and the Trimini working group.

Bäck will also take over the Trimini department in the future.

Rosi Marksteiner (center) expressed concerns and pointed out that in the original meeting documents Thomas Eberl, also from the UWK, was given the presentation.

A small faux pas, which Müller explained by saying that “originally we actually wanted to entrust the second mayor with this”.

An idea that seemed all the more obvious to Marksteiner because Eberl had been involved with Trimini affairs for years.

“Leading presentations or working in one of the committees is not a question of a party or group.”

Mayor Müller defends Bäck's offices

Müller made it clear: “I don’t know why I shouldn’t give Ms. Bäck the office.” It takes common sense and skills, which Maria Bäck has.

The fact that Bäck is now also a member of the UWK has no bearing on the matter.

“Leading presentations or working in one of the committees is not a question of a party or group.” In addition, “there is always someone there who looks after it,” agreed Eberl, who particularly appreciated “the fact that a younger committee member is with you from a different perspective.”

Thanks to her hotel management, the new councilor knows her way around tourism

Bäck took the discussion about the Trimini office calmly: “Of course, I first have to find my place in the local council,” said the mother of three children to the Gelben Blatt/Rundschau.

The Kochler native has been running the Hotel Waltraud with her sister since 2016 in the third generation and, according to Müller and Eberl, is therefore very familiar with the tourism sector, a presentation that Bäck could also imagine.

As secretary of the children and youth support association and member of the school support group, she also sees herself in the “Family” or “Youth” department.

What's next with the presentations in the Kochler local council?

Klaus Barthel (SPD) interjected whether “we even have to determine the departments today?” A question that Marksteiner confirmed insofar as the “Asylum” department was on the attack a few years ago, when the first Ukrainian refugees arrived has been.

At that time, Marksteiner and Bettina Sindlhauser (center) had to look after it almost alone, a service to which Müller paid “the highest respect, thanks and recognition”.

Nevertheless, he was concerned about the question of whether a speaker should not primarily work at a political level.

Like Marksteiner, the third mayor Veronika Lautenbacher (CSU) brought up the idea of merging departments - such as “Youth”, “Family”, “Asylum” and “People with Disabilities” into a “Social Affairs” department.

Müller spoke of more rights, but also responsibilities for speakers, as well as having one or two speakers report on their work at every local council meeting in the future.

Finally, Müller announced that he wanted to make new decisions about the distribution and possible merging and thus renaming of departments.

“It would be nice to be able to establish a new structure before the summer break.”
