After 48 hours in police custody, the man suspected of intentional homicide of a spouse in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention pending his trial, communicated the Grasse prosecutor’s office.
Monday morning, the day of the tragedy, he himself called the fire brigade to warn that his partner was injured.
When they arrived, they could only note his death,
“with traces of blows”
.
The forty-year-old had been living for a short time with this Riviera woman of the same age in this coastal town.
Initial investigations revealed that he was intoxicated and under the influence of drugs that night.
The man was also known to the courts since he had already been convicted of various offenses, notably in 2014 for domestic violence against his previous partner by a court in another jurisdiction.
Conclusive autopsy
The suspect denied the charges during his hearings.
The autopsy of the body made it possible to conclude that the death of the victim had been caused by beatings, specified the Grasse prosecutor's office, adding that the investigations carried out by commission “
will make it possible to establish precisely the conditions in which his concubine was deceased”
.
A “feminicide” occurs, on average, every three days in France.
At the beginning of January, the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, counted 94 in 2023, compared to 118 in 2022. According to feminist associations, this would be the 31st incident of this type this year.
