Franziska Wilfinger, Maurice Zeuner and Prof. Benjamin Schusser are well versed in hazardous substances.

You have now been appointed “ABC expert advisor” to the FFW.

District

– Franziska Wilfinger, Maurice Zeuner and Prof. Benjamin Schusser are very familiar with radioactive, biological and chemical hazardous substances.

That's why - after a corresponding training course - they were recently appointed by district fire officer Manfred Danner as "ABC specialist advisors" for the fire departments in the Freising district.

From now on you will support the team of consultants, which already includes Dr.

Andrea Schafferhans-Fuhrmann and Jürgen Hingerl.

When accidents involving hazardous materials occur in the Freising district, there are usually many firefighters on duty.

Extreme caution is required because the substances can be toxic, corrosive or highly flammable.

In order to be able to assess the situation quickly and correctly, it is important that specialists are on site who can identify the escaping or escaping hazardous substances, classify them correctly and immediately order all the necessary protective measures for emergency services.

Sometimes the population also needs to be warned if, for example, smoke gases are escaping in a large fire.

“On-site specialists are very important,” says Helmut Schmid, district fire inspector and head of the ABC train, from his many years of experience.

If they come from the ranks of the fire brigade and therefore “speak the fire brigade language”, that would be perfect.

Schmid is therefore pleased that there are now three more ABC specialist consultants in the Freising district, as he said when the certificates were officially presented to the new experts.

Franziska Wilfinger is one of them.

The 24-year-old firefighter from FFW Dietersheim studied physics and has always had a great interest in scientific topics.

Combining work and hobby was “appealing” for her, which is why she took the course to become an ABC consultant.

Maurice Zeuner describes his path to becoming an ABC expert in a similar way: The 25-year-old firefighter is also a member of the FFW Dietersheim, has also studied physics - and has the same passion for chemistry and physics, as he reveals in the FT interview.

The fact that they will be able to support their colleagues as experts in the event of dangerous goods accidents in the future fills both of them with great joy and satisfaction.

Dr. is happy about the reinforcement.

Andrea Schafferhans-Fuhrmann, who joined the ABC group in her home town of Dietersheim in the summer of 2018, completed training as a firefighter and completed the ABC specialist consultant course in February 2020.

The doctor of chemistry knows that the use of dangerous goods is becoming increasingly complex and demanding.

That's why the 50-year-old is looking forward to working together and exchanging ideas with her ABC colleagues.

Good to know

ABC hazardous substances are radioactive (A), biological (B) and chemical (C) substances and materials that pose a danger to life, health, the environment and property.

It is important for the emergency services that - in accordance with the so-called GAMS rule - the danger is recognized, the area is cordoned off, people are rescued and special forces are alerted.
