The market town of Peiting wants to revise its 30-year-old parking space regulations.

A first draft has now been presented to the local council.

Peiting - When it comes to construction projects in Peiting, it is always an issue: the market's parking space regulations.

It often leads to discussions because the regulations date back to 1994. People have long wanted to bring them up to date, but that hasn't happened yet.

“We’ve been putting this off for years,” said Mayor Peter Ostenrieder at the local council meeting on Tuesday.

But now the administration was able to present a first draft of the new statutes.

To achieve this, the building authority looked at numerous regulations from the region and used them to develop a corresponding proposal.

What is new is that in the future, builders of larger construction projects will be obliged to create not only parking spaces for cars, but also parking spaces for bicycles.

There is now also a regulation in the draft regarding the often desired construction of underground car parks.

In the future, at least 70 percent of the parking spaces in residential complexes that require 15 or more parking spaces will be built underground.

Both suggestions were well received by the committee.

Susann Tabatabai-Schweizer (Greens) wanted to know whether the estimated size for the bicycle parking spaces (1.90 by 0.70 meters) was also sufficient for cargo bikes.

Thanks to the designated movement area behind the parking space, the administration did not see any major problems.

Parking space transfers become significantly more expensive

Of course there were also requests for changes.

Marion Gillinger (ÖDP) suggested planting strips in larger parking spaces.

However, market builder Christian Hack pointed out that this would increase the need for space again.

Gillinger's suggestion to require e-charging stations from a certain number of parking spaces was also not heard.

“It’s a no-brainer, we don’t necessarily have to prescribe it,” said Ostenrieder.

From his point of view, the latter also applied to the issue of car sharing, which Thomas Elste (Greens) would have liked to have seen taken into account, as he said in an email to the administration.

He was unable to attend the meeting for professional reasons.

“We always talk about this with large residential complexes,” says Ostenrieder.

Following objections from Norbert Merk (CSU), the passage that garages should be set back at least half a meter from passing streets or sidewalks was deleted.

This narrow strip would only be gravelled anyway and would in turn result in additional use of space, was Merk's argument, which the committee unanimously followed.

In the future, people will want to demand significantly more money when it comes to replacing a parking space.

According to the draft, instead of 2,000 euros as before, 10,000 euros will be due.

Bicycle parking costs 1,000 euros for the fee.

The town hall boss did not believe it was necessary to consider underground parking spaces with a higher amount due to the more expensive production costs, as Merk suggested.

“I rule out the idea of replacing underground parking spaces,” said Ostenrieder.

Claudia Steindorf (SPD) was confused by the fact that, according to the draft, the required parking spaces for assisted living are calculated based on the number of beds.

“It's worth it,” said Steindorf, after all these are mostly normal apartments.

Ostenrieder pointed out that this meant parking spaces for nursing staff.

“We will record that as a separate point.”

Michael Deibler (CSU), however, missed a regulation for nursing services that would mostly park their vehicles in public parking lots.

But determining the need here is difficult, because you don't know how the company will grow, Christian Lory (independent) pointed out.

“We would have to adjust that every year.” Ostenrieder was also skeptical.

But we will see “whether there is a solution,” he promised.

There is still time.

The statutes should only be decided at one of the next meetings.
