The 15th Alpine crime novel by Prem author Nicola Förg will be published today, Thursday, February 29th.

It's about "angry sons".

And this time the dead man is practically on the doorstep.

Prem

- After Garmisch Commissioner Irmi Mangold last investigated in Italy, the latest murder case in Nicola Förg's new book takes her to Uffing on Lake Staffelsee.

A young man was shot dead on a construction site one night.

The first suspicion revolves around construction site theft that got out of hand, the second is directed in this direction by his mother, a teacher who is confronted with bullying and even death threats from parents.

As always, Nicola Förg, the journalist and author who lives in Prem, cleverly lays out many clues that lead everyone astray.

It is no coincidence that in her limited free time during the investigation, the inspector reads a novel by a best-selling author that deals with the problem of the baby boomer generation, to which Irmi also belongs.

“Socially acceptable dying will be highly desirable”

And in a drastic way: Since pension and health insurance have long since collapsed, the government is offering far too many old people a perfidious pact.

After a week of absolute luxury vacation at sea or in the mountains, they “voluntarily” drink a deadly cocktail.

Everyone can decide for themselves whether this is science fiction, says Förg: “There will inevitably come a time when socially acceptable dying will be highly desirable…”

While reading, her character Irmi repeatedly draws parallels to her own life that frighten her.

Is it because she is increasingly losing her positive mood and is also clashing with her colleagues Kathi and Andrea in the police station?

There's somehow a dark cloud hanging over the work on this case.

The private reading and the investigation unexpectedly come together when it turns out that the author of the book is the father of the murdered Joshua.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the generational conflict between the old “boomers” and the young people who feel that they have cheated them out of their future is the main theme of the “Angry Sons”.

15. Alpine crime thriller about the Garmisch investigators

A “battle” that Joshua and his father fought out over this conflict on the Internet and which was eagerly commented on by countless followers leads Irmi, Kathi and Andrea onto a new trail - which at the same time creates a connection to an old, unsolved case.

This means that new characters come into play and new suspicions arise.

In her 15th Alpine crime novel about the Garmisch investigators, Förg once again manages to keep the tension going until the end.

The author attributes the fact that readers have been loyal to her for so long and are looking forward to the latest book to two factors: “On the one hand, you need main characters who are authentic, who develop and whose joys and worries you can sympathize with want.

And on the other hand, every book needs a story that shows new and exciting facets.

It’s boring to write – and read – the same book more or less 15 times!”

“Volume instead of emotions”

Like her commissioner, the author also seems to be increasingly struggling with the changing times: “Discussions today very quickly become polemical and over-emotional.

Instead of relying on arguments, you rely on volume.

I find it oppressive and it scares me that no one can provide sources for their claims anymore or at least check their alleged sources,” says Förg.

And things get really bad when verbal insults are placed far below the belt on social media anonymously or protected by crude nicknames.

“Where has the empathy gone?

Where is the respect?” The author could just as easily put these own statements into the mouth of her character Irmi Mangold, who is ultimately a kindred spirit.

This time, the bang of the unexpected case solution is followed by a second one, which had already been very gently announced to attentive readers.

But don't worry: there will be no spoilers here!
