Pure line drawings illustrate, in the foreground of this monumental textile work, the bright blue and flashy red silhouettes of a man and a woman.
A symbol of parity among athletes, they carry the fiery yellow Olympic torch under the feet of the Eiffel Tower.
We immediately recognize the style of their author, Marjane Satrapi, who drew them.
The Franco-Iranian artist, big name in comics and filmmaker, known for her two versions of “Persepolis” and her humanist commitment, was chosen by the Ministry of Culture, the Olympic Committee and the National Furniture to create this prestigious decorative element of one of the rooms hosting the 2024 Olympics events. The work will be unveiled to the public on March 12, during a symbolic “job event”, in a location still kept secret.
The tapestry, a triptych, will be displayed against a backdrop of breakdancing demonstrations, one of the new Olympic disciplines.
