Cola mixed drinks in general and Paulaner-Spezi in particular are an emotional topic for many people.
After a blind test, a fan from Bavaria is now drawing conclusions.
Regensburg - There are many types of Cola mixes on the market.
But many people seem to feel a special emotional connection with Paulaner-Spezi.
This is shown again and again in social media reactions - or in the fact that there are fan groups on Reddit or Facebook.
That's why the news that the brewery was bringing a related drink onto the market shocked many people - and made some people turn up their noses.
During blind tests, special attention is always paid to the performance of Paulaner species.
A Cola Mix drinker had to revise his opinion of the brand after tasting it.
A member of our editorial team also undertook several tests with initially 21 varieties and later 29 - the second time a competing product emerged that beat Paulaner-Spezi in terms of taste.
Now a new blind test is catching the attention of Reddit users.
The user “Knackersemmel” reports this.
You can guess from his username that he comes from Bavaria.
He explains to our editorial team that he lives in Regensburg (Upper Palatinate) and shows with part of his ID that his name is Florian G..
This cannot be definitively verified, but it seems authentic.
Blind test by a Regensburg resident: Paulaner-Spezi comes in third place among three varieties
He reports his attempt to the community.
He was also one of the Paulaner Spezi fans, but he also has two other favorite brands.
“I tested my three favorite species blindly,” he writes.
In addition to Paulaner, this also includes the cola mix drink from Labertaler and Glorietta from Oettinger.
The result surprised himself. He leads Labertaler in 1st place, Oettinger behind him, Paulaner-Spezi is in last place.
“Yes, I really thought Paulaner was the worst of the three,” he says, puzzled.
His comparatively small test with just three drinks still attracts some comments, especially since he asks “What kind of punishment do I deserve?” – presumably in the expectation that the Paulaner-Spezi fans will pounce on him.
People actually don't do that, even though it is said: "You really can't drink Glorietta."

There are surprisingly diplomatic statements.
“It’s ok.
During a blind tasting, I also found the Krombacher ones to be better than the Paulaner ones.
Nevertheless, I would never turn my back on Paulaner,” they say.
Florian G. responds promptly: “To be honest, I have better things to do than throw away my money on something that has a cheaper version that I actually like better.
That's why I only buy Labertaler now!” Paulaner has probably actually lost a customer here.
Another reported his own test: “In my blind tasting with twelve regional and national specialists, the Paulaner was only in the middle of the field.
Since then, my favorite has become the Flötzinger.
And that’s even cheaper than the Paulaner.”

Florian G. from Regensburg also tells our editorial team about his exact experimental setup: “Of course, I first bought my favorite varieties (everything in glass bottles, supposedly it tastes different out of the can).
Then I put post-its under identical glasses with the first letter of the brand name written on them (P for Paulaner, L for Labertaler, etc.), of course in such a way that I can't tell which is which from above.
Then I poured an equal amount into each glass and asked a family member to swap the glasses around like a shell game while I was away.
Then I went back into the room and put straws in the glasses so that I couldn't lift them and potentially reveal the solution for myself.
Afterwards I tried it one after the other and rinsed it out with water every now and then until I got my result.
Then I removed the post-its and told myself the 'solution'."
Quite a lot of effort.
But since Cola Mix is considered a hobby or even a passion for some, this doesn't come as much of a surprise.
Emotions were also heated when a Paulaner-Spezi supporter recently couldn't find his favorite drink at Rewe - and turned to this alternative.
