The discussions about the “Eurovision Song Contest” are particularly big this year.
Now Germany also has to adjust its ESC contribution.
Hamburg/Malmö – As the largest music competition, the “Eurovision Song Contest” (ESC) is intended to do one thing above all: unite people.
This is now easier said than done.
Because the event, which is actually apolitical, has been forced to react to world events, especially in recent years.
As was the case after the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022, which led to Russia being banned from participating in the ESC.
Word not allowed: Germany must adjust ESC contribution
And even in 2024, the organizers will only be able to put their self-imposed neutrality into practice to a limited extent.
There is currently a lot of excitement about the Israeli ESC entry.
Because “October Rain”, the song by 20-year-old Eden Golan, probably refers to the massacre by the Islamist Hamas on October 7, 2023 - and thus violates the rules of the competition.
These prohibit political messages in the “Eurovision Song Contest”.
If the text is not changed, in the worst case scenario there could be a risk of exclusion.

Isaak (28), who is traveling to Malmö for Germany, also has to adjust his title.
Because his song “Always On The Run” is also not compliant with the rules - although for a completely different reason.
The song doesn't contain any political passages, but it does contain a word that people don't like to see at the ESC: "shit".
The English term for “shit” is apparently too sensitive for those responsible.
Curses and strong expressions are strictly prohibited in the “Eurovision Song Contest”.
This is how Germany recently performed at the ESC
2023: Lord of the Lost with “Blood & Glitter” (26th place out of 26)
2022: Malik Harris with “Rockstars” (25th place out of 25)
2021: Jendrik with “I Don't Feel Hate” (25th place out of 26)
2020: Cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic
2019: S!sters with “Sister” (25th place out of 26)
To bypass ESC lock: Isaak changes text slightly
As reported by schlager.de
, among others
, the German ESC candidate has come to terms with the text change - and has a solution ready: "Somehow there's a 'shhh' or something like that.
We thought about it, we also censored it.
We can manage that, no problem,” said Isaak shortly after the preliminary decision, in which he beat Max Mutzke (42) and Marie Reim (23), among others.

Whether Germany can fight its way out of its competitive slump in 2024 remains to be seen.
The German ESC fans don't seem very confident about Isaak's chances.
