The price of kebab rises and rises.
However, there are big differences between individual regions.
It is particularly cheap in a city in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Dortmund – Bundestag member Zoe Mayer (Greens) recently described the kebab prices in the Federal Republic as “a mood barometer for Germany”.
If you follow this logic, the situation is likely to become increasingly tense: the classic kebab for four euros is long gone.
In many places, fans of the Turkish dish have to dig significantly deeper into their pockets.
Döner prices of eight, nine or even ten euros are no longer uncommon.
The cost of the dish has also recently risen significantly in North Rhine-Westphalia - but in Dortmund the kebab is on average cheaper than in the rest of Germany.
Dortmund is the German kebab master – cheap prices in Essen too
The kebab cost an average of 6.53 euros in Dortmund in January 2024.
This emerges from an evaluation by the food delivery service Lieferando.
This means that the Ruhr area city is clearly ahead of the other cities that were included in the analysis.
People have to pay the second least in Mannheim, where the kebab cost an average of 6.58 euros.
Even in Essen, kebab fans can still get away comparatively cheaply, at 7.13 euros.
However, the kebab was particularly expensive in Kiel (8.83 euros) and Munich (8.53 euros).
“Doner kebab inflation” is in full swing – but prices in Dortmund are still comparatively low.

Despite the relatively low average price, Dortmund has not been spared from the “döner kebab inflation”.
Compared to summer 2023, the price rose by a whopping 37 cents.
In other cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Turkish dish has also become significantly more expensive in around six months, in Essen by as much as 67 cents - one of the highest price increases in all of Germany.
In Cologne, the kebab cost an average of 7.74 euros in January 2024, a price increase of 32 cents.
However, people in Düsseldorf have to pay less, where the price fell by 34 cents to 7.10 euros.

Despite inflation: According to Lukas Podolski, kebab is still “far too cheap”
The recent price increase did not stop at the snack chain “Mangal-Döner by LP10” run by ex-national soccer player Lukas Podolski, as 24RHEIN reports.
Within a very short time, the dish became several times more expensive; the kebab there now costs 7.90 euros.
This is still “far too cheap” for “Poldi,” as the Cologne football legend recently said in a live stream on Twitch.
“How much does a margherita cost when you go to a pizza shop?
Almost ten euros or at least the same.
You have dough, tomato sauce and a bit of cheese on it.” Things are different with kebab, after all it consists of bread, meat, salad and sauce.
