A hostel with an attached swimming pond: There will probably only be a few houses that can offer a natural swimming pool.

The Hotel zum Bad in Krün can do it - and would like to do so for as long as possible.

Krün

– The Landhotel zum Bad is something special in the Upper Bavarian tourism industry.

Even more: a unique piece.

How many landlords can claim to run a guest house with its own swimming pond.

Michael (31) and Andreas Paschek (34) can do that. Some time ago the two brothers took over their parents' property in the Bärnbichl district - and with it the attached 50 by 30 meter natural swimming pool.

In order to provide this giant bathtub with a romantic factor with enough moisture, it is supplied with water from the nearby Kranzbach.

And it should stay that way in the future.

But anyone who taps into a public body of water naturally needs approval from the authorities - in bureaucratic terms, this is called a water permit.

This expires on March 31st.

The Pascheks are therefore applying to the responsible district office to extend this water privilege for a further 15 years.

It shouldn't fail because of the municipality of Krün.

“From our point of view, nothing has changed,” said Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger at the local council meeting on Tuesday.

The vote was accordingly.

In a required statement, the committee recommended by 12:0 that the higher-level district office continue to grant the hotelier family this special water right.

Michael Paschek is pleased to note this.

His great-grandfather Johann Kriner, who once ran an alpine inn (“alpine farm”) on Bärnbichl, bought the originally much larger pond from the community in the 1920s – and has looked after it ever since.

The fourth generation is now taking care of the artificial pond at the foot of the country hotel at the Hotel zum Bad.

“It’s a dream place, especially in summer, pure nature,” enthuses Michael Paschek.

But this huge natural swimming pool is not just a luxury, it also means a lot of work: cutting greenery around the bank, checking the water quality regularly and, thanks to modern technology, ensuring circulation and thus oxygen.

The Pascheks have now moved away from the expansion of the hotel operations presented in spring 2020.

“We don’t see a positive outlook for the future.” Michael Paschek is targeting issues such as energy costs and staff shortages.

For the time being, the three-hectare property will have 39 beds and 18 guest rooms - and of course the exclusive bathtub.
