The Weilheim-Schongau district's training compass explains all the job profiles that exist in the region.

It is intended to help young people with career orientation.

Schongau/district - If you start the game with a school class and each student names a profession one after the other, you can hardly manage more than two rounds, says Frank Pfaffenberger, director of the Schongau middle school.

Although there are hundreds of professions, no one is really aware of them.

The district's training compass, which is being published for the eighth time this year, is intended to provide an overview of the variety of training opportunities in the region.

And at the same time live up to its name and function as a signpost.

Kathrin Grabmaier from the employment agency knows that if all options are open to you after school, it is not that easy to make a decision.

Go to school, study, or start an apprenticeship – and which one?

The complexity of the possibilities makes it even more difficult.

“You may not believe it, but young people are afraid,” is also the observation of Roland Streim, managing director of the Oberland district crafts association.

According to Grabmaier, the young people fear that if they decide on one path, they will also reject other options.

But, she emphasizes, training is a two-way street.

“You need it as a foundation,” then there are still many further training opportunities and opportunities to change industries.

All professions are explained in the training compass - an overview of training opportunities and internships in the region

Every job profile is beautifully represented in the training compass, said district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß at the presentation in the Schongau middle school.

At a glance you can see requirements, important school subjects, earning potential and companies that offer relevant training positions or internships.

It's a good idea to leaf through the magazine again and again and discover new things.

Not only for those seeking training themselves, but also for teachers and parents.

And especially after visiting a training fair, when a lot is running through your head, the training compass is a good addition, says the district administrator.

Weilheim-Schongau was a pioneer, and the training compass is now also available in all neighboring districts.

One could certainly speak of a success story, says Roland Streim.

They can all be viewed online.

Finally, for students in the Penzberg area it could also be interesting to see what is offered in Bad-Tölz; in the Schongauer Land, training in the Ostallgäu or Landsberg districts may also be an option.

433 training positions, 119 job profiles and 202 employers can be found in the booklet, explains Christiane Wurm from the district office's district development department.

Workbooks and impulse cards complement the training compass

Andreas Korn from the IHK would also have liked such a training compass when he finished school.

“I went out and actually had no idea what to do,” he says, understanding the disorientation of graduates.

But the compass is an “effective tool to show what is possible”.

And close to home.

He also particularly likes the fact that the design “was thought from the user’s perspective.”

This year companies were asked whether they would take on trainees who needed more attention.

33 have agreed, says Monika Uhl, managing director of the Training Compass, happily.

“That’s a great signal.”

It is now possible to quickly create a CV via the website.

In addition to the compass, workbooks and (for the fourth time) impulse cards were created.

You can find suitable career fields based on your individual strengths.

“More transparency” was also suggested and dealing with “fear mongers”.

There are concerns about some professions, explains Uhl.

For example, that it will soon no longer exist, that as a baker you always have to get up incredibly early or you won't earn anything.

These prejudices are now specifically addressed on the website and an attempt is made to dispel one or two things.
