A criminal who was trying to break into the house of his elderly neighbors, in the city of
Corrientes
, died after making contact with a back door that had been electrified with 220 volts.
The intruder, who had his face covered with a T-shirt, died instantly due to the discharge.
The incident occurred on Monday while torrential rain was falling.
Rodrigo Barrios (24) knew that her 87-year-old neighbor had been admitted to a clinic in the provincial capital and her husband was taking care of her.
That's why he jumped over the wall that divides the properties and headed towards the only door that leads to the back of the modest house.
The young man did not notice that
the metal opening was connected to a cable
.
As soon as his left arm made contact with the metal, he received a strong shock and was “stuck.”
A brother managed to hear a scream and as he approached the wall he saw Barrios lying on the floor, almost hanging from his arm.
It was later learned that the couple had already suffered several robberies and that is why, before heading to the sanatorium in search of medical attention for the woman, they decided to implement an effective but dangerous security system: electrify the openings that led to the sides and the back part.
It turned out that on another occasion it was Barrios who entered and
seized construction materials
that he quickly sold for a few pesos.
It all happened in the house located on 300 Departamento Mercedes Street, a few meters from Esteban Bajac, in the Sol de Mayo neighborhood.
Apparently it was not the first time that Barrios entered to steal something of value that he later
exchanged for drugs
.
Until not long ago, the young man
was a skilled soccer player
, but he fell into drug addiction and his future linked to the sport fell apart overnight.
Barrios' body remained in contact with the current for several hours until a team from the Corrientes Police transported him for an autopsy.
For this, a team from the provincial electricity company had to cut off the power supply to the home, in order to avoid other similar events.
Police spokespersons indicated that so far the prosecutor in the case has not moved forward with an accusation against the owners of the property.
