The traditional costume association d'Leitzachtaler Niklasreuth-Wörnsmühl is celebrating its 30th anniversary with its traditional costume market.

On this occasion, Elisabeth Estner explains how demand has developed.

Niklasreuth

- Originally to equip the children for the Plattler rehearsals and with the club's costumes, the Niklasreuth-Wörnsmühl traditional costume club launched its traditional costume market.

This year, the people of Leitzachtal are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the market, which attracts customers from far beyond the region twice a year.

A success that hardly anyone had initially expected, says Elisabeth Estner.

In an interview with our newspaper, the co-organizer (44) explains how demand has changed in three decades and what is trending for dirndl dresses this year.

Ms. Estner, initially the market was intended for children, but today many adults shop there.

What has changed since then?

Elisabeth Estner:

Clothing is being appreciated by an ever wider audience.

The demand for children's things remains unchanged, they grow out quickly and you have to put down a bit of money for the clothes.

But for adults, interest only developed over time.

There's a huge crowd today, but we also have some really great stuff.

Will everyone really find what they are looking for at the market?

Estner:

We are not a retailer that has everything in all sizes (laughs).

But people like to sort things out and bring so much that there is still a lot there towards the end.

However, we take great care to ensure that we only sell clothing that is in really good condition and that we can present beautifully.

The issue of the club's gwand is now handled separately.

But when it comes to general clothing, which you can also wear for going to the wine festivals, almost everyone can find what you're looking for.

Sounds like a lot of work in the organization.

Estner:

Yes, yes.

With ten women in the market team and a few men helping us set up, we were already busy the day before.

The goods reception runs until 6 p.m., after which the clothing is sorted and presented so that it looks beautiful.

I also see this as our task as organizers.

A few years ago we even got a few mannequins for the most beautiful pieces.

During the market itself, two ladies do the billing and others help with the selection.

Are there any items of clothing that are particularly in demand?

Estner:

In addition to children's items, three-piece dirndl dresses are also in trend.

Two-piece suits - i.e. top and skirt sewn together with an apron - are not that popular.

But everything comes back - that's the change in fashion.

The men are particularly looking for original Miesbach costumes, especially jackets or hats.

But the club uniform traditionally remains the same, right?

Estner:

There are no changes in the traditional costume per se.

The traditional costume clubs have made it their task to preserve the traditional costume in its original form and design.

For example, Schalk is no longer just seen in black, but also in blue or green.

But it is rarely sold on the traditional costume market.

Is there more change in the general costume?

Estner:

Big flowers and ornaments are trendy.

Checkered is not in demand at the moment – but that will definitely come back (laughs).

Patterns and colors have previously been different for skirts and tops.

Nowadays the material or the color is often the same.

When it comes to decorations with borders and ribbons, things are becoming a bit simpler overall.

But in the end, of course, it's a matter of taste.
