With the start of operations early on Thursday morning, passengers in Berlin will once again have to prepare for extensive restrictions on bus, tram and subway traffic.
Due to another warning strike by the Verdi union in the collective bargaining dispute with the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), local transport in the capital largely comes to a standstill until the following day.
Berlin - The strike will only end on Friday at 2 p.m., as Verdi announced.
Vehicles are only in use on individual lines that are served by private companies.
However, regional and S-Bahn rail traffic is not affected.
The BVG canceled the third round of negotiations originally scheduled for Friday due to the industrial dispute.
Verdi is also calling for strikes in other federal states.
The union is currently negotiating new collective agreements nationwide in parallel.
Only in Bavaria is there no collective bargaining round because the contracts there are still running.
The rounds differ in each federal state.
In some it is about higher pay, but in most it is primarily about better working conditions.
This is also the case in Berlin.
Here, Verdi is demanding, among other things, longer turnaround times, holiday pay and more vacation days.
