A parking garage or parking deck could be built on Hatzplatz.

However, the costs are first determined as part of a feasibility study.

Mayor Heilinglechner is optimistic about the Hatzplatz parking garage.

But the “city councilor has to show courage sometimes” - then a bold forecast could work

Wolfratshausen - While the local FDP invited people to the premiere of their first online get-together this week (we reported), the Wolfratshausen Citizens' Association (BVW) invited people to an “open evening” at the Flößerei inn on Wednesday.

Completely analog.

With personal, face-to-face conversations and the option to order a delicious sausage salad and a wheat beer thanks to face-to-face service.

The topics were not fresh, including the construction of a parking garage in Wolfratshausen, which has been debated for years.

But at a two-day closed meeting in mid-January in Seeon Monastery, which “was good for the city council,” says Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (BVW), looking back, the Gordian knot seems to have been cut.

“The parking garage on Hatzplatz can be up and running in 2025,” said the town hall boss on Wednesday evening, “that would be possible.”

“It can be done in 2025”: Heilinglechner is optimistic at the Hatzplatz car park

As reported, the city council commissioned a feasibility study at its most recent meeting with a vote of 25-0.

This should provide information about the costs of different variants - especially with a view to the level of the lowest floor: a floor in the ground, a mezzanine in the ground or at ground level?

The planning should also take into account the proposals drawn up by the former chairman of the Wolfratshausen SPD, Hans Gärtner, and Green City Councilor Hans-Georg Anders.

At the retreat in Chiemgau, the city council committed itself to upgrading the old town, Heilinglechner reported to around two dozen visitors to the BVW event.

Every elected official has now internalized that the approximately 70 parking spaces that are being sacrificed to increase the attractiveness of the city center and the redesign of the western banks of the Loisach must be compensated for elsewhere.

This is before the construction work begins, which as of today can be expected from 2027.

Parking in Wolfratshausen: There should be a decision after the summer break

The mayor expects the feasibility study to be completed in the next three or four months.

“After the summer break,” said Heilinglechner, the city council will make an initial decision.

More must follow, because only when the cost calculation for the above-mentioned variants is on the table do we have to answer detailed questions: How many floors should the parking garage have, how many cars should it be able to accommodate, how should the facade be designed?

Many attempts failed: What is different about the parking garage plan than years ago?

“What is different today than four years ago?” asked BVW chairman Thomas Eichberger.

As is well known, the city council had commissioned an investor to build and operate a parking garage at the time, but canceled the lease agreement concluded for this purpose.

On the one hand, the positions at the time were very far apart, explained the town hall boss.

Some city councilors advocated a six-story parking garage for 300 cars - others were of the opinion that there was no need for a parking garage at all, "because in the future we will all be cycling to shop."

Hatzplatz car park: “the best compromise for Wolfratshausen”

At the closed meeting there was now consensus that a parking garage on Hatzplatz was “the best compromise for Wolfratshausen,” added city councilor Dr.

Ulrike Krischke (BVW).

In addition, all participants in the exam virtually committed themselves to putting the project into practice.

Although town hall boss Heilinglechner still does not assume “that there will be a zero decision”.

For BVW councilor Helmuth Holzheu, the fact that the feasibility study was commissioned unanimously is proof that “we are all pulling in the same direction”.

Citizens on board: SPD proposal causes headwind

A suggestion from city councilor Manfred Menke (SPD) sparked opposition in the discussion.

He advocated getting the citizens on board to explore how the people of Wolfratshausen imagine a parking garage on the “Filetstück” Hatzplatz.

“No,” said BVW member Eberhard Hahn.

The city council is elected to make decisions.

“Without any ifs or buts,” the citizens’ representatives must “enforce what they have decided.”

Hahn explained that he doesn't believe in doing another loop in the form of an elaborate "citizen survey" - and he received a lot of support for this statement.

Heilinglechner also reacted to Menke's suggestion with skepticism: "Then we won't get a green solution." The city council "is the citizen's representative," emphasized Heilinglechner, "it also has to show the courage to stand by a decision."

That doesn't mean that the sovereign will be completely left out when it comes to the Hatzplatz parking garage, Krischke put it into perspective.

“But it is clear that we will build there.” All city council factions are well aware that the location between Loisach and the old town is “a very sensitive area”.

Therefore, we will “look closely” at the “appealing design” of the building.
