After the gas leak accident in Hadamar, the firefighters are making progress with measurements in the houses within the safety radius.
By the afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Limburg-Weilburg district, they had already checked almost half of the more than 400 buildings affected for a possible risk of explosion.
No gas has been detected in the buildings so far; the evacuation radius is being carried out from the outside to the inside, said the spokesman.
Hadamar - The sewerage system is also constantly being checked and so far there have been no abnormalities.
At the same time, preparations have already been made for the keys to be handed over to the affected citizens in the Niederzeuzheim district, said the mayor of Hadamar, Michael Ruoff (CDU).
At the same time, he made it clear that it was still unclear when exactly people would be able to go home again.
“Safety comes before speed,” emphasized Ruoff.
The leak in the gas tank was reported on Monday morning and was probably caused by maintenance and repair work.
In an initial radius of around 300 meters around the tank, people had to leave their apartments and houses because of the risk of explosion.
The safety radius was later expanded to 400 meters after a man was seriously injured in an explosion and the collapse of a house.
According to police, the man returned there contrary to the instructions of the security forces.
He was seriously but not life-threateningly injured.
