Cologne - Just over a million people watched on Wednesday evening (February 28th) as Sebastian Klaus (35) and Dennis Gries (30) racked their brains over who deserved their respective roses.

In “The Bachelors” this year, for the first time, two bachelors are looking for their dream woman at the same time, but the innovation in the current edition of the RTL dome show only seems to interest a few TV viewers.

After “The Bachelor” was able to achieve fairly high market shares for years, the first season of “The Bachelors” has been stuck in low ratings for a few episodes.

It is therefore rightly questionable whether RTL will still produce further episodes in the future.

On Wednesday evening, episode 7 of “The Bachelors” set a new negative record

As the online portal DWDL

reports, among others

, only around 420,000 representatives of the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 49 year olds tuned in to follow the flirting attempts between the Rosenkavaliers and their candidates.

The seventh episode of the first season of “The Bachelors” only achieved a market share of a weak 7.7 percent - a new low for the format.

The previous episodes had also remained below ten percent and were anything but a success for those responsible at RTL.

However, the competition on TV Wednesday was incredibly fierce: ZDF, for example, showed a live football broadcast and, according to DWDL

, secured

almost 20 percent of the television audience.

Weak ratings for “The Bachelors”: That’s what RTL says about the TV flop

The show's disappointing performance will of course have a major impact on whether a second season of "The Bachelors" is produced.

But despite weak ratings, RTL still seems to be convinced by its innovative format.

In a statement, the broadcaster explained to IPPEN.MEDIA that viewer ratings are just one of many indicators of success for a TV production.

“The linear ratings always have to be viewed in conjunction with streaming.

We are very satisfied with the viewing figures for 'The Bachelors' on our streaming service RTL+ and were able to record an increase compared to the previous year.

Above all, the 7-day preview function, the opportunity to watch the episodes in advance, is popular,” the statement says.

However, RTL did not reveal whether a second season is already being planned.

“We are now looking forward to the further episodes of the current season and will announce everything else in good time,” said the broadcaster.

There is currently a real baby boom among former Bachelor candidates - three recently revealed their pregnancy.
