Those responsible for the Aufkirchen Volunteer Fire Department had strong numbers with them at the annual general meeting.

And: Peter Reiss will remain commander for the next six years.

Aufkirchen – Club life really got going again in 2023, said chairman Michael Attenberger.

What was particularly remembered was the May festival, for which the fire department was “incredibly committed”.

After a mediocre performance last year, the wine festival was also a great success and, according to Attenberger, brought a nice sum into the balance sheet.

Commander Reiss then reported on 62 active fire brigade members.

There are 16 strong young people among them, and the number of female active members has now reached twelve - and the trend is rising.

There have been a total of 32 incidents in the past twelve months, including the fire department responding to fires twelve times.

But there were also animal stories, said Reiss with a smile: “Once we had to go out in the middle of the night to deal with an injured animal.

At least now we know how a tawny owl screams.”

When it comes to training and further education, the volunteer fire department also presented itself in an exemplary manner; it is well positioned for the tasks ahead.

District fire officer Florian Pleiner could only praise, he even described Aufkirchen as a model fire department.

However, he warned that people are less and less able or willing to help themselves and therefore often call on the emergency services even for trivial matters.

Pleiner showed no understanding at all that firefighters and the like had to be talked to stupidly at work: “They sacrifice their free time, and they should be given great credit for that.”

Youth warden Benedikt Ametsbichler reported on the offspring, who was happy about the strong growth and emphasized: “Interested people from the age of twelve are still welcome to come and visit us.”

The fact that some members were honored for 40 years of active service amazed Mayor Bernhard Mücke, among others: "That's quite something special, and it would be interesting to see how many missions they have completed during this time." Mücke was also happy about it youth work and was proud of his total of five weirs: “We are even better positioned than the large district town of Erding.”

In the commander elections, Reiss received a unanimous vote from the 34 eligible voters, and his new deputy Matthias Zehetmair was pleased with the same result.

He takes over from Peter Scheidhammer, who no longer stood as a candidate for personal reasons.

The finances are also good, cashier Andreas Roß reported a surplus of over 3,000 euros in 2024. The cash balance increased to around 22,000 euros.

There was a special feature of the honors: Gerhard Roth was unanimously elected honorary commander by the members; he held the office of commander from 1994 to 2006.

Stefan Gerbl, Michael Kreuz and Andreas Roß were honored for 40 years of active service.

Manfred Kürzinger has been going on missions for 20 years.

Of course, promotions couldn't go unmentioned: Alexander Hirner and Vincent Mai can now call themselves firefighters.
