The request made by the National Council of University Students (Cnsu) to extend the academic year "deserves attention".
For this reason, "I renewed the discussion with the Conference of Italian Rectors" since a decision in this sense falls within the principle of autonomy of the University.
This is what the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, writes, responding to a request made by the group leader of the Union of University Students in the National Council of University Students.
"The Covid emergency is, fortunately, behind us but I am perfectly aware that some consequences are still producing negative effects on the course of study", highlights the minister again.
In the most critical period of the pandemic emergency and in the context of the state of emergency, Parliament adopted a rule to extend the academic year in all universities, favoring those students about to complete their degree cycle.
A decision made in derogation of university regulations.
The duration of the academic year, in fact, is regulated by a law (the consolidated law n. 1592/1933) which establishes its opening on November 1st and closing on October 31st of the following year.
Over time, numerous universities - in implementation of the principle of autonomy - have varied the time frame and have defined the timing of the graduation sessions with their own regulations.
"After the period of major health crisis is over, I believe it is necessary to bring the scope of the decision on the subject of your request back to the most appropriate context, that of university autonomy", the minister further underlined.
The Government, through an agenda in the Milleproroghe decree, has undertaken to evaluate the opportunity to extend the academic year.
Following this commitment, the ministry immediately began discussions with the Crui.
A comparison that was renewed after the request made, within the Cnsu, by the Udu.
In his response, the minister declared his willingness to discuss the topic in one of the next sessions of the University Student Council itself.
