Mayor Jens Müller banned the use of the Kochler home stage on Friday until further notice - “purely as a precaution,” as he said.

There has been confusion around the Kochler home theater these days.
Now the mayor surprised users with a “purely precautionary” closure.
Kochel am See – What’s next for the Kochler Heimatbühne?
More details on this will probably only become clear in the coming days.
In the short term, however, Mayor Jens Müller informed the main users on Friday (March 1) that the building “may not be used until further notice”.
District office contradicts Mayor Müller's representation
How did it get to this point?
It had long been known that the house, which was built in the 1930s, was in need of renovation.
In the summer of 2023, the local council decided to have the costs of renovation as well as demolition and new construction determined.
However, it was not known how urgent the issue would soon become.
Last Wednesday, the new town hall boss Jens Müller surprised everyone with the announcement that the home stage could no longer be used for larger events with over 200 people due to fire safety regulations.
On Thursday, district office spokeswoman Sabine Schmid explained in response to a request from our newspaper: "Contrary to previous reporting, the home stage is currently not allowed to be used until the safety-related deficiencies have been corrected." Contrary to what Müller had assumed, the authority's requirements do not only apply to this Hall and not just larger events.
Heimatbühne including cinema and “Kochler Stuben” closed
According to Müller, he was unable to clarify more details with the district office on Friday.
Even when asked by our newspaper, the authorities did not provide any more detailed information on Friday.
The mayor then decided “purely as a precaution,” as he says, to prohibit the cinema association, the landlord of the “Kochler Stuben” and the theater association from using it for the time being.
How exactly things can continue is something he wants to clarify with the district office as quickly as possible next week, said Müller.
He hopes that the restaurant will remain closed this weekend.
In any case, he promised the innkeeper that the community would cover his lost sales.
“It’s really not his fault.”
For the cinema, Müller hopes that “at least an interim solution” will soon be possible to get it back into operation.
The main problem is apparently the heating, which is carried out in the building via the ventilation system.
Only with the large hall as a meeting place “I fear that it may be a longer affair,” says the mayor.

Closure “completely surprising and without warning”
The closure notice came “completely as a surprise and without warning” for Stefan Bauer, the chairman of the “Kino in Kochel” association.
In a conversation with Müller on Friday, he had already considered whether cinema operations could be decoupled from the building's ventilation system so that operations could be resumed quickly with the help of interim solutions.
“If the closure lasts a few weeks, it would be a blow to our office,” says Bauer.
Since the cinema is run by volunteers, finances wouldn't even be the biggest problem.
“We don’t have to pay wages and salaries.
But what would be worse would be the lack of regularity.
Our visitors should be able to rely on the fact that there will be a performance every evening at 8 p.m..”

The owner of the “Kochler Stuben”, Laurent Pigault, speaks of a “stupid situation”.
The notice from the community came at very short notice; he had already bought and prepared everything for the weekend.
Nevertheless, the restaurateur remains somewhat calm.
“If there is danger, you have to take countermeasures; that is out of our hands.”
The landlord of the “Kochler Stuben” has to reschedule
According to Pigault, no larger celebrations have been booked at his restaurant this weekend.
As a precaution, he informed the guests who had made reservations for events in the next two or three weeks about the uncertain situation and also reached out to his Kochler gastronomy colleagues to see whether they could take over if necessary.
Fridolin Söhl, second chairman of the Kochler Theater Association, looks at the situation in a rather relaxed manner.
“We will know how to help each other,” he says.
The adult theater group has been on pause since the unexpected death of director Peter Heimbeck at the end of 2023. It will certainly be the beginning of 2025 before the theater artists need the hall again for a performance.
According to Söhl, a crime drama performance by children between the ages of 10 and 12 is currently being prepared.
The aim is for a date shortly before the summer holidays.
“Of course the children’s goal is to be on the big stage,” says Söhl.
However, an alternative option will certainly be found for the rehearsals, for example at school.
And in an emergency, there will definitely be a solution for the performance in the summer.
